Hello folks,

I’ve been a lurker in this forum for a while. I’m a long time gun enthusiast and collect primarily S&W 357 Magnum revolvers and Colt revolvers as well. But I’ve always been interested in Glocks as well and lately have been starting a modest collection of Glocks.

Last week I got wind of a newly arrived Glock 17L at my local gun store and after a quick research in this great forum, realized it could be one of the rare ported Gen 1s 17L since I was told that it was ported.

I went to take a look at it thinking I had a slim chance of hitting jackpot, and to my surprise, when I took a look at the pistol, which I had placed on hold, it was a very good condition Gen 1 Glock 17L Ported. Unfortunately, no box and papers, but it came with 2 period correct magazines and a period Glock plastic holster. This one has a DB04*US serial number and an STT barrel marking, so from May 1988.

I paid $1100 for it. How did I do? The LGS had no idea what they had as 17Ls go for around this price in my area. Upon examining the internals, I did see all black parts, with the exception of the trigger bar, which is golden. I’ve seen other Glocks of the same period in this forum with a gold trigger bar and forum members saying that those were correct too. Is that right?

Many thanks in advance for your POVs.

I’ll be looking to add a Gen 2 and a Gen 3 17L to my connection next.

Ya did awesome!!! Just about any 17L is currently hitting around the $1k range. I paid well over that for mine.
I also have the gold colored trigger bar, so I do believe it to be correct for that gun. Considering the weekend sights are still intact, it’s unlikely to have been modified or used much.
Welcome to Glock Collecting! You got a great start!!

Id say you did great. Thats pretty rare. The barrels cracked and people sent them back to Glock only to have mismatching unported barrels. Look it over good (the barrel). I personally would not shoot that one. Id say you scored. I just bought a tenifer Frying Pan Finished 17L gen 3 no box? Have not gotten it yet. Has not shipped yet. It appeared to be near mint. 850.00 im very happy if its as nice in photos as it looked. But for what you paid thats a steal!!! They are around 1,000.00 as a starting point now!

Nice!

I always wanted a Glock 17L and ended up stumbling across a blue label one NIB at a local dealer. Mine was apparently made during the last run in 2017 or so (around the summer special production.) I purchased it in 2020.

I have under 500 rds through mine. It is a very soft shooting gun for sure! (Have Ameriglo Agent sights on it along with a surefire x300 light.)

I wouldn't shoot your gen1 17L. As @Toocool45 said, the cracking of the barrels with factory porting is a chance I wouldn't take.

Lets try and ease the concern over barrel cracking.
The issue with ported barrels cracking was attributed to some competition shooters running higher velocities than standard. This is typical behavior for individuals who compete.
‘Running commercially produced 9mm will see no issue with the longevity of the barrel.
The reloading of 9mm to greater pressure’s/velocity is well known here in the collectors sub-forum as the actual cause.

As for the 17LP you received a very fair price. Not a steal but very fair. It indeed sounds as if it is in original condition.
$1500-$2000 possibly from a well composed GB auction.

If you try and complete it will now drive that price paid upwards.
88 Manual- $150-$300 eBay
Box- Near impossible to find. $500-$700 for the proper one. Most selling these know what they have.
‘Loader- Glock logo top with smooth sides $60-$100
Cleaning Rod- Austria marked nothing else.

A complete 17 L not ported recently sold on GB in the $2500 range.

Congratulations! I happened to have walked into a small and very old gun shop in my area, guess what I found? An original Glock 17-1st Gen, two original mags, cleaning brush and factory box and sitting next to it? A Glock 19-2nd Gen, two mags, factory box and manual. Is literally a 1 in a million chance! Un freaking unbelievable! I love this stories, it makes me just stop at every gun shop in my area! Great find

Awesome find! I would have loved to have bought one, but unfortunately never was able to actually find one. I do have a gen1 Glock 17 w/ original box, ect. Also got lucky enough to have snagged a gen 2 model 19. I don't shoot them, they are put away in my gun safe. At some point I am going to sell both of them.

PT,

mine is a later serial than his in the db prefix. Correct loader is variant two pebble grain with bump. Also came with 88 1 series manual with all 3 Gen 1s on the back.
