I carry my 40 with the grip safety just about every day and every where. I have the secret service grips also. One of my NYPD uncles told me he used to keep one in the outer pocket of his topcoat, no holster.
Wicked cool. I wonder how many are still being used like they were intended.

Not a J-frame but I second original wood with Tyler grip. They're a great combination on any gun model.

How in all my years of shooting / collecting / hanging around the circles - did I not know S&W produced revolvers with grip safeties?
Probably because you’re so young🤫

They stopped regular production around 1974, I picked up a Model 42 Airweight in 1975, sitting unloved in a local shop.

They were not that popular at the time, and hard to find a holster to fit.Bianchi made one that had the strap around the trigger guard ( also works for the Bodyguard) .

Another thing - painful with hot loads, that serrated safety will chew the web of your hand.

I find the current production 442 much nicer to shoot.

Those grips look nice.

Not sure who it was but a couple years ago when I mentioned that sometimes my grip on a S&W Model 40 I have wouldn't depress the grip safety and recommended Secret Service Grips. Well, I didn't rush out and get them and thought about a Tyler T Grip add on.

But anyway, the mail lady left a package from Eagle Grips in my box today. They seem to work great...much more natural grip for my big hands. Fit and finish seamless. Kinda wish I had ordered the fancy grade wood, but these are pretty nice. Now gotta' stretch out the strap on my Bianchi "Lightning" holster to get the snap to fit.

Whoever it was that recommended the grips, thanks.

Hey...great old "squeezer"...many youngsters here have no clue how nice they were/are...tucked in your waistband at 10 :00 covered by a nice s/s shirt with some speed strips in your right/front pocket and U R GTG!

I prefer 1:00 for Mexican Carry ( as it used to be called when Free Speech was still the norm)...but yeah.

People freak out on gunboards these days if you mention just sticking one in your waistband, but in the recent past before the advent of kydex and 5,000 holster makers, MANY people (myself included) did just that. Was the entire reason for the "Hip Grip" (which is still being produced IIRC).

Still have my wedding tackle so no ill effects so far. 🙂

Totally separate from above, FullClip I'm dumping serious jealous hate on you Brother.

How am I going to explain to Mrs Dood that I have to acquire a new to me Model 40 variant without blaming you?

🙂

Seriously nice pocket popper.

Thanks for sharing it.

Yep..invented in late 19th century by one of the company's founders. It was intended to make the gun safer around children. Introduced as the "Safety Hammerless."

Out of production in 20th century until sometime after WW2. In production in 1950"s.

Brought back briefly maybe 12-15 years ago.
I was in my LGS looking for pre-lock Smiths when I saw a new nickel plated lemon squeezer. Still have it. Don't shoot it much.
