I was at my range a few days ago and a fellow member and I were yapping. We got on the topic of Black Talon ammo and I said I have a 50 cal ammo can full of 45, 40, and 9mm. He told me there are some pretty high $ per round if I wanted to sell it.

Well, ya sure I'd sell it or trade. Anyone have info on a reasonable price to see or where?

An aside: Black Talon ammunition ceased production at Winchesters call, it is not banned or illegal.

I've shot several partial boxes of BT ammo over the years. Both 9 and 45. Always seemed to find boxes with rounds missing at gun shops and estate sales. The ones I captured in water jugs are NASTY sharp.

No razor blades but very sharp petals post expansion. Discontinued due to negative backlash of media.

Isn’t the Winchester Ranger line the same thing? OP- while Black Talon is desirable to many folks, I doubt you’ll get a lot for loose rounds. If, however, they’re boxed, there’s def a market.

A couple of months ago I was at a local pawn shop where they had just bought some in .44 Mag. They wanted $140 for a box of 20. I'm sure they probably sold them for that or close to it, just not to me.

Gunbroker is a good place to sell them if you don't have a local Gun show. I was given a case that had a lot of BT in it, I shot some and sold most of it off over the years. Sold the last of it last year when the prices were high and bought some guns with the cash.

No, those were the teflon coated rounds that were called cop killer bullets.

Black Talon expanded into 6 sharp petals, whereas SXT, intended for the consumer market, expanded into 8 petals without the "talons".

Law enforcement only "Ranger T" is what replaced Black Talon.

The black coating in the bullet was a Winchester proprietary lubricant called "Lubalox".

Black Talon was used in the 101 California Street shootings, in which Gian Luigi Ferri shot 8 people to death in San Francisco in 1993, which brought the bullet to the media's attention.

The use of the word "Black" elicited allegations that the bullet was racist and was derisively referred to as "Black Felon" ammo.

I have several boxes of .45 acp but I would never sell it. It is the most accurate round I have ever shot in my carry Commander. 1" at 25 yards rested.

Yeah I still have a box of both old Black Talon and a Box of PMC Starfire ammo. Both of them were new designs in ammo that came out approximately the same time.

Black Talon was discontinued and re-issued as Ranger Ts in time. The Starfire Design was co-opted by multiple companies after cancelation... one of which was Federal and they used it to design the Federal HST loads which I love for .45 ACP.

It was Winchester's advertising that got them in trouble. One ad showed an expanded bullet with the caption "IF LOOKS COULD KILL". The idea of promoting Black Talons as some sort of super-duper, wickedly lethal ammo worked, but it also stirred up a frenzy amongst the anti-gunners.
