Hey guys! Soo I came across something I would consider pretty rare. I purchased my first ever AR today, an m&p 15 sport II. Purchased in box, brand new. And it’s clear the thing is brand new. Field stripped and checked everything and all is perfect condition. Btw, box matches serial number of the gun. Well on the right side of the lower under the dust cover where the known “M&P” in bright white is ALWAYS stamped isn’t there. 😅 well instead what exists is what you will see in the photo. I encourage you to look online for days, hell even months and I promise you will NOT find an m&p like mine. Seems someone made a boo boo from the factory. But in all honesty, I would prefer the “SW” stamp than the bright ass white M&P. Tell me , what you guys think? Rare? Or no? Again , search high and low online and I promise you will not find one stamped like mine. 😁😁😁

Check out Smith & Wesson's website.

That appears to be the lower receiver Smith & Wesson is using on all their Volunteer XV models. Maybe a mistake for a M&P Sport II (unless S&W is transitioning most production to this lower), but not unique or rare.

I do like the way it looks.

Omg I’m so happy I created this post! Yeah the box and handbook all say sport II. Which is why I was so confused. I looked up the XV model , seems to be going for 1000-1200$ new. I paid 780$ for mine as that is the normal price for the sport II these days. If this wasn’t intentional, seems I got quite the deal for an upgraded lower for the price of the sport 😅😅 I’m super happy for your identification of this! Thanks a lot man! No wonder I couldn’t find that stamp anywhere for sport models 😂

I’m new to ARs and would like to ask …could this affect function of the rifle ??? Seeing as it’s a different lower than the sport 2? God I hope not, was like a little kid walking out of the store with this😱

Not rare at all. I read this week were S&W were going away from the M&P logo on the right side of the magazine well on their AR15 sport 2's I think it looks better withoiut the big 'M&P' on them. Same lower, just a change in markings on them.
Fine firearms !

From a practical standpoint, it would be a lot easier for them to stock one lower, and use that one lower, to build all of their firearms. Maybe they are consolidating.

With the built in trigger guard, it is probably sourced from Anderson. I have an Anderson that looks identical.

As long as it's dimensionally to specifications, a lower is a lower is a lower.

I saw a S&W revolver on gunbroker - established seller said it was NIB - the serial number matched the box but the barrel length was wrong, I can't recall but like the box said it was a 4" barrel but it was 6" + the stock was off a different model.

He called S&W and they said if he returned it they would replace the barrel and stock - but he was trying to sell it as a collectors item.

I saw it go unsold a few times and don't know what happened to it.

I don't pay a lot of attention to logos and such on my guns - but it does bug me a little when a manufacturer will stamp READ THE MANUAL or something like that on the side - and the WILL FIRE WITHOUT A MAGAZINE is also pretty lame.

It's sad. Kinda like how vehicle owners manuals used to tell you how to adjust the valves, now they tell you not to drink the coolant.

Also, I have a M&P Sport 1 or 2(not sure) and I'm not sure how many models there are, but mine has no dust cover or forward assist.

Owners manual is now 2" thick - 50 pages on how to use the audio system. But they don't give you a spare tire.

Most overused wording for firearms descriptions is...RARE.

Very seldom true. Very seldom.

What's not remotely rare is the number of guns being sold with the word "rare" in the description.

Not banging on the OP, just saying.

It’s the newer style lower. Might be “rare” today but since they are all going to have that and not M&P won’t be “rare” for long.

That being said, M&Ps are my favorite lower end AR. I have one, along with a few that were a lot more expensive. It does just fine and never had a stoppage. Its nothing fancy or overbuilt but it is a good, solid rifle.

I got one yesterday with the same error! (if it is an error). I love it, but I have been confused if they actually sent me a Volunteer XV instead of a Sport II by mistake, or if from the factory they gave us a core structure of the volunteer with the parts of a SportII!! (??)

Note that on the other side it doesw not have the S&W logo, so they must have move to the right.
