I picked up one of the Korean 33 rounders a few years ago dirt cheap. It would not reliably feed the last dozen or so rounds. The spring was very weak compared to OEM mags. I replaced the spring with a Wolff one and it has been 100% reliable since in two Glock pistols as well as a Ruger PC Carbine.

Glock makes a 9mm 24 round magazine which is a great choice if you want more but not the length or weight of the 31 rounder
This is where I was going. 30rd mags in a pistol, an actual pistol pistol (not AR pistol) to me is way too long. Likely to get hung up on gear etc. now if it’s in a submachine gun type platform where it’s not sticking out of the grip I think that’s different. Which is why I suggest staying around 20-couple rounds.

I have a 30rd 10mm mag…never loaded it into the gun. I keep FMJ in it and take it to range with me and strip rounds from it for other mags that I’m using.

That's why I buy Glock 30 + mags , they work.
I totally agree with your logic.

I have SBR-ed G17 with KPOS G2 enclosure. And I used 33 rd KCI mag for years but one day accidentally dropped it from my office desk with the gun's sling. The mag just flew to pieces when hit my soft plastic chair mat. Very disappointed, I won't trust the material it's made of. Learning from my own mistakes I bought 27 rd Pmag as a replacement. This is the way!

I used to buy CCI Blazer 115 for loading those mags up for the truck or just to see how fast I could drain 34 rounds of 9mm. It’s cheap and about the lightest ammo there is between the 115’s and aluminum cases. For 9mm, no reason to use anything but OEM.

Don't even Waste your time or money on anything except the Glock OE Magazines
I don't care how cheap they are
The 33rd G18 magazines seem to cost right at $40 around here
I picked one up in FDE for my G19X but will never use it except for at the range but it's loaded up & ready
