Hello! Posting because I'm conflicted on getting my first AR15. I was originally planning on getting the M&P Sport 2 as it's decently cheap and seems to have good reviews, but then my friend said that S&W AR's are low quality, not sure the accuracy of his statement lol, then I got latched onto the Ruger 556 which was around $730. Which seems to be just slightly more consistent in the shooting tests I watched. There's just too much information and too many guns out there for a noobie like me to make a solid, informed decision lol. Does anyone of you have any personal experience with the guns listed or have an AR that was around the same price, but very reliable and fun to shoot? Help me out I'm, too jumbled LOL. What should I look for when AR hunting?
Don’t get “sport” models cuz they’re cheap. Buy it, buy it once, buy it right. Whether it’s a gun, holster, sling, whatever. You know how many people I’ve seen wasting a chunk of money on a bunch of crap gear to turn around and have to then by the same gear just the real version?

last time I heard of an AR sport model it didn’t have a forward assist. Things like that just don’t get

Since there is barely a dollars worth of difference between a Ruger, Smith, Springfield, get the one you like that fits your budget.

I have owned close to 100 ARs over the years, most of them I built myself. 9 were off of prize tables that I sold as new and never shot. 1 I kept. It is not hard to build an AR and if you plan to keep it, a better path. You get the parts you want and are not wasting money upgrading. I handed both of my sons a box of parts on their 13th birthday. It took them 3 hours to build their own ARs, but they still shoot them at 17 and 20 years old.

A lot of high end ARs delete the FA. It is a useless failure point.

Are you sure you’re not going a little fast here buying all the guns? You know 2 guns in the span of 21 years is a little too much….. ……

😉
Enjoy the hunt, it all part of the fun. And by the way, I bought two shotguns in a couple months when I was 19. My dad was a bit envious, he borrowed one or the other quite often…

Since the Springfield has been brought up, what might be everyone's opinion on the Saint and specifically the Saint Edge?

People love the M&P sport, widely praised entry level rifle. Maybe not what you need if you’re taking several advanced classes per year racking up high round counts, or going for optimal precision from the platform at 100 yards and out. But a perfectly fine entry level range and home defense gun.

Before COVID and the 2020 election, the same thing could have been bought for around $400 or sometimes less. Sadly, today, the best deal I could get on one as a kit would be over $500.
A fair deal, these days. Especially assembled with rear sight included, etc.
It is cheaper yo buy an upper and lower tp save on the tax up charge. I seen PSA ARs on sale for around $500 or so combined with the upper and lower.

Buy whatever is cheapest. My S&W has been my go-to for about six years and has been almost perfect. Earlier this evening I found an old target that had a prone position 3 inch 10-shot group of AE 223 ammo at 100 yards. It'll do about whatever you need. I've even had thoughts about an S&W M&P 10 and an M&P 15-22 just to have a complete set. I have no reason to doubt the Rugers are great stuff also.
Appreciate the reply. Everyone seems to favor the S&W so I'll probably go with that.

Get a PSA, Riuger, or S&W AR... You do not need an expensive Gucci AR or even an over priced for what it us Colt. I only suggesr Colts for those who are collectors. PSA upper and lower would be my first choice. It's also the cheapest and most milspec.

@StinkDoo
Thanks for the advice. I'll look into it some more
