Yeah that’s right, I’m getting me a Fanny pack.
What are the ways to secure a holster inside a Fanny pack and what holsters will work?
Doing my research and it’s not clear to me how the gun is secured inside the Fanny pack.
If I’m carrying a loaded gun I need to have it locked into a kydex holster, I also like some level 2 active retention if I’m either open carrying or being active like running, so it doesn’t bounce out.
I have seen some Velcro straps that go around a soft-style holster, and I’m not really into that. I’ve also seen, and maybe I’m wrong, people just putting the gun inside the Fanny in the main pocket. (Seems sketchy to me).
What are the holster options for carrying in a Fanny?
I hike and backpack a little bit and that’s the only time I’ll be using this carry method. Tried out the chest rig but I think it looks silly unless you’re out hunting in bear country. Plus I want to carry concealed as to not alarm the granola folk on the trail. I’ve tried open carry once while backpacking at 4 o’clock and it was very painful.
Help me out.

I’ve carried in a fanny pack for many years. Not my main carry, but when the situation dictates; wearing sweats or running pants and a hoodie or sweatshirt on top......I’ll wear a fanny pack.

I’ve never used a holster inside the pack, never found a reason to need one. I use an Uncle Mike’s fanny pack. I use a S&W 642 as my pack gun, although I have carried a Glock 26. I keep the 642 in the pack, which sits in a cabinet by the door. All I need to do is throw my wallet in the pack and I’m out the door.

The gun sits in the compartment which closes with velcro. My wallet and reloads ( two 5-round speed strips) sits in the next outer zippered compartment.

It depends on the Fanny Pack. Some have a universal soft holster that attaches w/velcro inside. Some have just some velcro straps. I would suggest that the best option is to get a cheap kydex holster and attach that to the inside.
^^THIS. Get a fanny pack specifically designed for handgun carry. Mine comes with a soft holster that fits my carry guns and the strap that holds it. YMMV

I know you say that you don't like "chest rigs", but have you looked at these particular ones? Keeps the gun totally concealed and doesn't look "silly" at all....at least IMO.

Hill people gear also make a Fanny pack if a chest rig isn’t your style.

As for the gun inside. If it’s fitted well you nay not need a holster, just a raven vanguard or one of the many kick offs to cover the trigger guard.

I use the HPG Fanny pack with a G42 or G48 and an appropriate Vanguard. I lanyard the vanguard to the pack and when I draw it snaps off. Works great for my needs.

Why not get a fanny pack holster? Any major gun shop sells them.

This pack is great!! I have had two in the past 10 years. I bought the Medium from Amazon.

I checked and they are availble on Amazon. The website linked below states "Sold Out".

Fanny Packs

Buddy I use a Desantis when long distance driving with a nylon holster and strap, I guess you could glue a kydex shell inside, but mine works fine as is.

Just got this on E bay to replace it.

Make sure you have your Velcro strap tennis shoes and the big sunglasses.

You're just being stupid!
Thank you

I guess there might be a couple of people walking around America who do not equate a fanny pack with gun carriage. To me, this simply works against my idea and purposes of concealing a weapon. Others may feel differently and that is fine. It is what make the world go round.

Try this. Eberlestock fanny with a Crossbreed holster. G27 shown.

Fanny packs have their place. Maybe just do a general online search and see what may appeals to you. You will benefit from practice draws if you go that route as I have seen a few people not convert over easy from their normal carry mode. I saw a guy at the range not too long ago fumbling around with his to the point I left the active range until he split.
