Has anyone else noticed the difference between the Gen 3,4 and the Marksman barrels in the Gen 5? Personally I think they aren’t any more accurate than the Gen 3’s or 4’s.

Yes, Glock sales target results are much tighter with "Marksman" on the brochures.

I guess it would take a Ransom Rest and a sampling of Glocks to find an independent answer to that question.

I hope so since I own a Gen 5.

Early Glock 19 gen 5 barrels had short throat issues. Failed the "plunk test" but still fed the round. Has me concerned to the point that I now plunk test all my carry ammo and stick to 124 grain 9mm.

Later gen 5 9mm (those found in versions with front serrations no longer have this issue ).

One of the reasons for the change to the marksman barrel was to add rifling marks to the fired projectiles, so that they can be tracked back to the firing gun.
My last Gen 4 G22 left rifling in the rounds after being fired. The Marksman barrel is supposed to be a match grade barrel, therefore being more accurate. I find my Gen 5 G17MOS isn’t any more accurate than my old Gen 4 G22.
Now you are going to say it’s the shooter, well years of shooting and doing dot drills I can say my Gen 5 G17MOS actually shoots worse than my old G22. My S&W M&P 40 2.0 groups way more accurately than my 17MOS.

I tried to contact Glock regarding the Marksman barrels and got no reply. So evidently they don’t care about their customers.

This video has the true explanation of the purpose of the marksman barrel. Starts at the proper place.

I think it was Kyle DeFoor who said a couple years ago about this – if you can do a 2 inch group at 25 yards with your GEN 3/4 Glock, then you can likely do a 1 inch group with the new barrel in the GEN 5. But if you couldn’t do it before, you’re not gonna do it with just the GEN 5 marksman barrel.

I have a new Gen4, G40 with polygonal barrel, it’s stamped with 3D like a Gen5 barrel. I’m not sure, but it seems to the original 3D scanned barrel impressions can be altered as the barrel wears, or purposely altered very easily.

I believe when you can shoot a Gen 4 and get a group size the same as you would as it does using a Ransom (or equivalent), you may be able to determine whether the Gen 5 is more accurate, and you're limited, still. Unless both barrels are tested with a precision barrel bench, there's no way to know which 'barrel' is more accurate.

I shoot my Gen5 G17 more accurately than other older G17 models, including an older Gen3 that I considered to be one of the best shooting 9mm Glocks that I owned before I bought the Gen5.

However, I cannot definitively say that practical accuracy increase is all due to the barrel, as the Gen5 also has (in my opinion) a better, more manageable trigger action. As the user's interface with the trigger is arguably one of the most important aspects of pistol accuracy, it could be playing a much larger role in my increased accuracy than the barrel.

I believe a better question would be is the Gen 5 with the marksman barrel more accurate than the Gen 4? It would involve more aspects such as QC and build (fit, gaps and clearances, tolerances), the barrel itself, and trigger action (shooting off hand verses bench rest). You could more easily take a random Gen 3/4 and Gen 5 and Ransom rest each gun to get an average of what group each will shoot. Not many breaking down the door to get their Glocks in a Ransom.

I'm not really good enough to tell the difference They are both plenty accurate for me.

Does anyone know if there is any velocity difference between the marksman and non-marksman barrels?

I remember that being a selling feature on the polygonal barrels, that is, less friction and a little bit more velocity.

True. It could also be that you shoot better without finger grooves

I'm going to continue putting Wilson barrels on my carry guns. Then no problen.
