Before, I was concerned about WML holsters having small openings in the trigger guard that could allow for NDs.

I’ve wanted to carry a light on my firearm though for the ability to press the gun into someone at grappling distance without causing it (or reducing the risk of it at least) to be put out of battery. I believe this is a strong pro of WMLs rather than just identifying a target in low light settings, etc.

I’ve done some FOF stuff plus low light and I would rather have a WML than JUST a handheld light. I always have a handheld with me.

So I’ve been adjusting a Bravo Concealment holster for a TLR-1, and I think I’ve found a way to completely cover the trigger and comfortably carry it at appendix position. I’ve added a claw and I can sit, walk, run, spend the day with it on, etc. without any issue.

I’m going to go ahead and say I was wrong about the holster issue and have found something that works for me.

Who here carries a WML on their EDCs?
How’s it been for you and what issues if any have you come across?

I think if I did, it’d be something small on small. I struggle with comfort most of the time and don’t personally go out in dark situations.

I have a couple guns with small or integrated WMLs but except for home defense, it doesn’t tick the trade off box for me.

For stand off devices, that’s the reason why one of my close contact self defense guns is an 8-shot 357 snub revolver.

BTW, if you are looking for a decent and economic light, try the Olight weapons lights. Bright, easy to mount and so far, very durable. Some even have a magnetic disk that charges the internal batteries as opposed to a USB chord or changing batteries.

Tried one for a while but don't like the bulge the extra chunky holster leaves IWB. Maybe with one of those lights that don't extend wider than the gun itself.

Until then I'll just carry a pocket flashlight

If I put a light on my gun, it will be because I need a light.. not because I think its going to facilitate some other tactic. That's just me

Depending on the angle and absolute placement of the other person, it may very well be the top of the gun you are pushing against them. Depending on the angle of force, you may still take your gun out of battery. A .5-1.0 inch protrusion on lower portion of the weapon might help but its not a sure thing in my estimation. Its not magic

I am a proponent of using a WML on weapons which often demand the use of two hands such as rifles and shotguns. I accept that a WML can have some narrow but measurable benefits on a handgun but I am simply not a fan.

If you want to utilize a WML, great. Just make sure its a realistic and practical decision and not something based on an effort in tacti-cool-ness.

I don’t believe the added weight and bulk are worth it, for me. The most likely scenario is me drawing to a threat in a reactive manner and simply engaging as quickly as possible.
I do believe in having at least one light and usually carry a TLR-1in a pocket that I can attach if needed.

If you have a "chunky" holster, you have the wrong holster.
Oh, I don't know, Stealth Gear are considered pretty good by some.

Certainly a chunky light.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I appreciate them. Just to be clear, I wanted the light not just because of the stand off device possibility. I’m working late and find myself in dark areas sometimes often. I also carry a handheld.
The fact my holster is so comfortable with the light makes me think “why not?” when it comes to carrying it.
I’m going to run it through a training class in a couple weeks, so that’ll be a big deciding factor of whether I keep the set up or not.
Thanks again, everyone.

I’ve had a WML on my duty gun for 15?? Years or so now. Off duty I generally carry a gun with a light. I’m currently carrying my gen3 32 with TLR-7 on it. I have an a/iwb holster for it from Werkz and when I owb, I have one from Raven.

My current issued gun is a gen4 31 and I use a TLR-1HL on it in a Safariland 7 series holster.

I had a spare TLR-7 sitting around so for my birthday I will be getting another carry gun that can use it.

I've got lights on my full size duty pistols and holsters for each but I conceal a 43 and carry a single cell Elzetta. I don't feel the need to EDC a full size pistol/light combo. It's a bit much in my opinion.

The Olight another poster was recommending...

Points to ponder on WML's: reflective surfaces, ie hall with glass/mirror tile, fresh white walls....trigger finger doing multiple actions (ie light on for flash navigation , light off while moving and still run the trigger effectively).....pointing muzzle at stuff to see it....at longer distances, ie. at 100 ft is the light close to poa/poi...poly gun frames flex, keep the light mount tight or it will depart the gun rail....can you switch from single handed RH operation of the light and firearm to single handed LH operation of the light and firearm? ...auto glass, at night especially with light rain or dust, with a WML being perpendicular to the glass, can you see inside the vehicle? and more ...I am NOT against WMLights, I will carry one at times...just stuff to think about, as most guys do not get real low light training...just shooting targets isint enough.
