A few weeks back I posted a video by the Forgotten Weapons guys on the MDR and it was fraught with malfunction.

Now Garand thumb is posting his test results with a different MDR and it’s pretty much the same problem. Jamming at the fancy ejection port and functionality issues with gas port settings.

However Garand Thumb did pick at some of the ergonomics and other design issues as well.

As soon as I saw that ejection port in Ian's video my first thought was there is no way something that complicated will work well.

The odds of getting the spring tension just right on every rifle so that it will let the empty case in, but not let it bounce out, seem very low. What happens when the spring starts to wear? What happens if the cases are dirty or slightly out of spec? What happens if you split a case in the chamber?

I'm with the school of thought that says empty brass should GTFO of any autoloader as soon as possible and as powerfully as possible, and anything else is inviting disaster.

That was either a pre-production gun or early production gun. The current ones have six-positions gas regulator.

MAC had good luck with his.
His rifle did not have the 2 screw on the forearm. His also only had 3 gas setting.
So maybe they have been improved. ????????????

I would be very hard to buy this rifle.
Maybe the gen 2 or 3 would be better.. LOL

That gun could literally fall apart in his hands, jam, fail to fire and he will look right at the camera and exclaim, “I thought it shot great!” His videos are worthless from most perspectives for sure.
I have never watched that Sootch guy's video. I've known about it, but never watched any.

The one I shot jammed. It's egos are good and it can be shot ambidextrous ly very easily with no mods. But I jammed it 1x in 30 rounds. It was easily cleared by popping off the ejection port, which is how you select the ejection side. I think the design is promising but could use a little more refining. Even with that it's one of the only new designs I've shot that I was excited about plus it's an American company with Americans building them.

I don’t give a damn if George Washington himself built the gun. I ain’t buying no jammamatics.

Yep, I'd rather make a Last Stand with my awesome M1 Garand, and a 'Frozen Chosin' load-out of 320-rds (i.e., 40 8-rds clips), than chance my survival on the latest Cool-Guy 5.56 jammamatic.

This things runs like a sewing machine on steroids.

Remember, dudes, ... oodles of 30-rd magazines won't help you if your gun won't feed them.

Just sayin' :whistling:

As much as I like ARs , SCARs , and rifles of today there is no way they can match the look , feel , and personality as Walnut and Steel. Nice rifle.
