Have a G19 Gen 5. I've seen where folks don't care for the ambidextrous control, and remove the off side lever (right side for right handed).

I was thinking of doing the opposite - removing the left side external lever - I tend to ride it with my thumb and it either causes mag lock backs while shooting or failure to lock back on last round.

I'd keep the right side, and could always use that if needed, but I tend to just slingshot my slide anyway.

I have a Beretta Nano for my "micro carry" size and love the absence of the lever.

Would this be crazy (btw I would buy a spare, modify it, and keep the original as original.

Just a question, before you hack it off why not just trade it for a different 19? I don't think I would modify it personally. I don't know if I would feel completely comfortable with doing that especially if it were a EDC. Your decision of course. I guess you could replace it if it didn't work. Me personally I wouldn't do it. Good luck!

If you are riding the slide lock with your thumb, you need to look at your grip. Maybe have an instructor look with you.

You'll still want to block it open for safety, inspection, etc. Makes it easier to simply thumb the lever upward in the usual fashion.

Maybe get something with a bigger handle so you don't crowd the stop lever. 19X perhaps? (Had to work that in there!)

There is no other Glock that would accommodate a left handed shooter. I'm fairly certain the OP is talking about removing the right handed controls.

Just an observation. I have two Gen 5 Glocks. There is a cut on both sides of the slide to engage the slide stop. On both my guns, only the left side of the slide actually engages slide stop. It’s almost as though the right side is a back up, it’s there but the cut doesn’t touch right side of the slide stop when the slide is locked back. Something to ponder.

That's unlikely. The SLIDE LOCK is the part on the frame that must be pulled down to unlock the slide assembly for removal from the frame.

If I were you, I would cut it off and see how I liked it, how I functioned without it. If it worked, I would keep it that way, if I found I didn't like something about it, swap in a replacement and go back to trying other things.

Good luck.

PS - I would just cut the outside of the tab off (the part your thumb touches) and leave the rest of the lever.

Exactly what I’m considering. Buy a spare and cut or grind off the left tab so I can’t accidentally engage. Then I could always put the original part back if I don’t like it or mess it up.

If I do give it a try I’ll post results. And yes I realize fixing my grip is to accommodate the gun is the other path, but I have 3 other guns and it’s not an issue. Beretta Pico you have to work to engage it- that lever is flat. Beretta nano has none. Sig P320 grip has a ridge that blocks the lever. So I’ve gotten used to my right thumb along the resting on the side ...

Its not like it is a critical part of the stop. :)

I’ve been thinking of grinding my G42 SSL to a nub. With correct form it never happens. But earlier this summer when I tried it in GSSF with a little bit of adrenaline, I had it lock open twice. I racked and got it running quickly, but I’d like to buy my grip a little more room to be sloppy.

Dammit.... brain cramp.

You and the OP know what I was getting at. If your thumb is riding the slide STOP, your grip is at least unconventional. Personally, I'd want to address my grip before hacking anything off.

I wrestled with the Gen 5 slide stops all summer. I have a proper grip but large hands so there is only so much you can do. My slides would lock back on all Gen 5 pistols but not on any other gun I own, Glock or not. My solution was to slightly bend the slide stop on the left side of the gun, squeezing it so it rides closer to the frame but not touching. Ho issue now.

Is that metal actually bendable? I was thinking of going the opposite way - to make it stand more proudly.

I think I have a good reason for that.
