So I recently ordered a Steyr M9 for a pretty good price as I have been wanting one for a long time.

I was watching some videos on disassembly and apparently, the m9 series uses a chassis system ala P320/APX.

For some odd reason Steyr serial numbers the frame, and does not have a window in the frame to see the serial on chassis, and they chassis doesn't appear to be serialized.

That seems like a really crazy oversight. Any idea why they didn't? Seems like a huge missed opportunity that maybe they will fix in Gen3 if they ever make one.

When the gun was designed, there’s was very little interest in modularity.

Lots of people still couldn’t care less about it, me being one of them...
lol well plastic isn't your preferred platform.

I was just curious. What you say makes perfect sense, thanks.

Sure thing

Maybe Steyr will get on the bandwagon in the near future, but I think it will be a while.
Yeah, I think you are right. There's not enough of a market for them at this time. You can't hardly find them for a decent price anywhere.

I was shocked to find the deals I did.

Oh, not only is it polymer, it's OD green. I know you hate colored poly frames lol. Definitely not your style.

Modularity is a tad overrated for individual gun owners in my opinion.

By the way, I think you can still get an L9A1 at this site for $419 using discount code 50SP

The L9 is a beast, built like a Panzer and with an interesting grip angle.
I agree on the modularity.

Yes, for the black models. Shipping is $20, so $440 total.

They also had the OD Green on sale, free S&H plus a free mag. Steyr charges $20 more for OD green, I ended up at $499 ($40 extra mag + $20 for OD green, no shipping fee) so you are really paying for the 'free' mag and the Steyr up-charge for the colored frame.

I used the 'demoranch' code.

I don't think they sell well to justify a new version. Which is a shame as I think they're one of the best striker-pistols on the market.
I've only ever heard good things about them, and the low bore axis intrigued me (been reading Bac's comments about low bore axis too much lol).

My local range/shop loves them but never carry one in house.

For low bore axis, Steyr L9 or CZ P10c for the win.
I like CZ, but the grip on the P10c does not feel good to me. Nice pistol, just something about it does not work for me.

Eh, I prefer black, but I’ve had polymers in colors before.

That "other" Austrian pistol, the Steyr, uses what would be categorized as a "chassis", but they weren't designed with the ability to be "modular" in today's sense with the capability of utilizing different sized frames like the SIG P320 series, and were certainly not designed for an easy take down, as the frame lock can be a pain in the arse to remove; I had to physically deform the frame on one of mine slightly outwards to remove it and it's spring, with the same method required for reassembly. There really is no need to go this far, unless for parts replacement, which I believe to be a very rare occurance.

I have images of one of mine disassembled, but my picture host is currently down...*edited to add image:

They're great pistols which I believe literally blow away Glock in the ergo department...it's just too bad that Steyr doesn't seem to be the least bit interested in promoting them. I suppose their rifle sales are keeping them afloat. Still, I'm always on the lookout for one I don't yet own (i.e., any of the "L" series guns), currently owning 4 models; an M9, M40/357sig, M9A1, and a C9A1.
