Thought about it.. but the Gen4 slide doesn't have a dual cutout for the ambi-slide lock... needless to say I'm not willing to be the first dummmusss to try it.. :couch:

Why would you want to do this?
My guess would be to have an optic cutout. But you'd have to remove the ambi slide stop. Other than that idk. I've seen someone put an aftermarket gen4 trigger in a gen5 so if the locking block and barrel lug are the same it might work. I'd say just send it out for an optic cut though.

There's absolutely no doubt that it is NOT possible for the G17.

In order to allow FBI armorers to stock the same part for the Locking Block in their new G19/G17 "system", the M/Gen5 G17 lock-works of the Barrel, RSA, Locking Block, Slide, and Frame have been changed to be the same as those used on the G19. That is why NONE of these major parts are interchangeable with those of ANY earlier G17.

So...for the tremendously vital and valuable benefit of reducing the FBI's spare parts inventory for their two new pistols by a single infrequently-replaced part, a massive redesign of the major parts of the G17 was made! Of course, at least now the new G17 barrel will fit the G19 too...so it was worth all the effort. :)

These monumental changes were NOT made to improve any function of the G17, nor to correct any lingering problems in the original 35 year old system. It is all only to satisfy some federal agency administrative parts supply requirement.

I'm sure everyone here will see the benefit of these changes in their personal new Gen5 G17. There are doubtless many thousands who would never have purchased a G17 until it could use the same locking block as the G19. Our fervent prayers have now been answered! :)

Exactly! I was wondering about an MOS slide on the gen5.

The gen5 slide WILL fit on a gen4 frame. i have tried it and it works just fine. I have not shot it yet but everything as a certified glock armorer seems that it will function just fine during firing. My next range trip will include this swap for firing function. I will post when I do it.

And for someone that asks why i would do this is that i carry appendix with my 19 in a soft holster and to be honest the rounded front portion of the gen5 slide feels better than the squared off version of the gen4 in my gut when sitting and the finger grooves are my favorite. However i am not a big fan of frankensteining a defensive gun with different serialized parts so i will be sticking to the gen5 for appendix carry for now. just thought i would add that I have both gen4/gen5 pistols and it seems it works. More to come...

I believe the question was if a Gen4 slide will fit onto a Gen5 frame(not the inverse). No it wont, different slide grooves/plates to prevent just that.

The locking blocks and barrel lugs are NOT the same.

Can they just swap slides, and keep the barrels with the original frames? If the Gen4 barrel and recoil assembly fit in the Gen5 slide, they should match up with the locking block.

NFA Review already swapped a Gen5 G19 barrel with a threaded Gen4 LWD G19 barrel, and they fired it suppressed. It seemed to work for them just fine.
Yes, **barrel** exchanges between a Gen5 G19 and a pre-Gen5 G19 work fine. Glock did NOT alter the G19's traditional barrel/locking block configuration.

OTOH. the Gen5 G17 uses a barrel and RSA that are unique to the Gen5 G17. A Gen5 G17 barrel and RSA will not fit any other G17 ever made. Glock modified the Gen5 G17 barrel to use the same locking configuration as the Gen5 G19 to allow FBI armorers to stock the same locking block part for both the G19M and the G17M. This "enhancement" forced a major redesign of the barrel and RSA. I doubt any other purchaser will see any value of this G17 change, especially since it forever condemns the G17M/Gen5 to using a barrel and RSA that fits no other G17, and prevents the new G17 from using any other barrel...including OEM G34 and G17L barrels.

However, on the bright side, the G17M/Gen5 barrel should now fit any generation of G19 and G26...so that's no doubt worth all the disadvantages of the new G17 design. :)

This may work out perfect for me. I bought my wife a G19 MOS but she doesn't use the MOS feature. I'd like to own the Gen5, but I've become accustomed to the pistol mounted red dot. I'm just about willing to wager that a G19 slide swap is a go, and I'll only miss out on an ambi slide release (which shouldn't affect me at all).
