I've been wanting to pick up a Ruger LCR/LCRx but I have been a little hesitant about how the sights are going to be on it. I've fired a few different Smith Wesson 642's with stock sights and I had lots of trouble seeing it. Is the Ruger any better? And could I easily change the front sight on the LCR to another sight that would make it easier to see ?

XS Big Dot front sight only.

I put that sight on all of my guns and it really works good for me.

I sold a LCR a few years back with and XS BD on it.

For a gun this size, you'd do well to learn to shoot without sights. 20 years ago, that was an ordinary shooting skill - not sure why so many people today think sights are a big deal on a self-defense gun. Either way, your problem with the sights is more about your confidence and practice level than the actual sights.

I put a green fiber optic front sight on my LCRx. It took about 15 minutes. I found it helped give me a more consistent sight picture over the plain black front sight. Some of the LCR's come with the green sight. I have an XS Big Dot on my smith model 60 and it is also user friendly, fast to acquire and good practical accuracy .

HiViz works for me, they also have orange or green. Like all fiber sights, they don't work in the dark. So learn to point shoot as well.

The standard black sight on the LCR is large and easy to see unlike SW snubbie sights
And Ruger makes swapping out the front sight easy and inexpensive, also unlike SW snubbie sights.

I've had two LCR's and just have always used the black factory sight works for me. Maybe I'll try one of those big dots down the road.
I just took some bright yellow fingernail polish and painted the ramp. Same thing I did 30 years ago with my S&W Model 15 and 19.

Well I picked up my LCR .38 over the weekend for $400 plus tax. To my surprise it has some kind of yellowish green front sight on it. I took it to the range and there is no problem seeing with that bright front sight :)

I like the plain black sights on my LCR, they are bigger and let more light in than the 442/642.
No doubt there's a benefit to having brighter or illuminated sights, I just try to shoot what I got frequently enough to have some decent 'feel' for where shots are going even if I can't see my sights as well. A tritium dot would be nice though.
