So, while I'm waiting for my SBR I've been looking a bit of research on dwell time. It looks like the dwell time in 11.5" barrels is considerably longer than in the 10.5" barrels. From what I've gathered, this should help mitigate over-gassing that some SBRs have. So, is there anyone that has a 11.5" SBR and can give me some advice on whether I should be picking out an adjustable gas block, a heavier buffer, or will I not need either? I'm new to the SBR game, so I'm trying to get all the info I can before my Form 1 comes back.

Thanks in advance :wavey:

ETA: It will be wearing a suppressor full time.

I have an 11.5" BCM upper mated with a Specwar 556 suppressor. I use an H buffer and forward assist gas vent replacement, and it's still overgassed. That said, I don't feel the need to replace the gas block (cut down FSB).

Well that a tad disappointing to hear. Maybe a heavier buffer would do the trick?

I found an H3 in the parts box, but I've never bothered trying it.

The only thing that will fix the root cause of overgassing is an adjustable GB. A heavier buffer just addresses the symptom.

Either way, I'm not bothered by it.

My advice is to talk with the people who made your barrel. There is no standard gas port for a SBR and they can be very different--therefore there is no right answer for your barrel.

I have a LMT 10.5" and they recommend a standard buffer. I tried a H2 buffer in it and it will short stroke about 50% of the time. The standard buffer is 100%

I'll head over to the BCM industry page on arfcom and see what they say.
