Unless I'm strapped for cash, I don't really bother with Checkmate or Metalform mags. They're pretty much at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality of components and fit & finish.
Most guns manufacturers or sellers use Checkmate or Metalform mags with their own brands stamped on the mags.
Filipino gun manufacturers somehow like to use the Italian ACT mags.
For lower price mags, I prefer Mec-Gar brand. I've used Mec-Gar in not just M1911 mags but other makes as well: CZ, Beretta, SIG Sauer, ad infinitum. Love'em.
For "Gucci" mags, I prefer the Tripp Research mags. They're like gems, that's how fine they are. Not cheap, but beautifully crafted.
Customer service is impeccable. They chopped down the full size 9mm mags for my Colt Defender 9mm. Recently I bought some Officer's ACP and the Government Model flush fit 7-rounder for a Talo Colt Defender .45ACP and a Series 70 .45 ACP. One of the full size mags worked but didn't fully eject from the mag well. One of the Officer's ACP mags somehow kept jamming with the 4th or 5th round. I called them up, got a person to answer the phone (Aaron), told him the problem. He said send it back. No Return Authorization #, no copy of sales receipt, no picture of jam (which I took), no nothing. Sent the mag back with a note explaining the issue, three days later, got two brand new ones back with a note saying that they couldn't replicate the issue with the Officer's mag and the Government mag did stick a bit.
I also like the Chip McCormick mags quite a bit. I think that they're well built and reliable, but for the price of Chip, Wilson, and Ed Brown mags, I might as well get the Tripp Research mags.
Anyway, count me in as a Tripp Research mag fanboy: .38 Super, 10mm, 9mm (cut down mag), .45ACP (in three different flavors, Officer's, 7-rds and 8-rds).
