You might want to give the STOEGER 3000 a serious look. It's basically the IDENTICAL operating system as the Benelli M2 at about 1/2 the cost, or less. MANY in the 3 Gun games have went this route and have been really happy with them. I've read all kinds of great comments about the Stoeger 3000.

I've got an M1S90 that came with a 24 inch barrel. I want to make it into a HD shotgun and one that I could use at some point to try the 3 Gun games. I wanted the shorter barrel at 21 inches. To my shock I found that the replacement barrels for Benelli semi autos are as expensive as other SHOTGUNS. A barrel alone will cost you $400. Every single part you are going to want to put on it is going to be EXPENSIVE. A mag extension can be had for $55 from Carlsons or TacStar, but most will tell you that those are NOT ACCEPTABLE and that you should go with a NORDIC COMPONENTS or other HIGH DOLLAR extensions that cost upwards of $90.
I've also read many horror stories about people needing warranty work and having to wait a long time on their stuff or a LONG TIME on ordering a part from Benelli.

The Beretta 1301 is also a great choice. It comes in 2 varieties, a 3 gun version and an HD version.

Good Luck in your choice.

I agree the Stoeger 3000 is good. In fact Stoeger sent us two to work on and make some tweaks. However, the operating system is inertia, but not identical to the M2. The fit and finish is, well Turkish, not Italian.

In a word, NO. The M2 is the best currently-made defense auto loader. Shoots clean, works reliably. BUT, it demands full power ammo. No reduced recoil fodder. I wouldn't trade my 870 or S&W 3000 for a Benelli.

My suggestion as a lower cost alternative is to find a used M1Super 90. That is what I did, and I couldn't be more pleased.
They can be tweaked to work with light loads. Most 3 gun shooters shoot cheap #8 shot out of M2s.

I guess I am the only one who would want a Browning Auto 5 to turn into a tactical autoloader. Tell me why I am wrong.
You aren't. Plenty of folks in the 1920s and 30s used the A5 as a "tactical" shotgun with great success.

Lots of people in the 1700s got by with flintlocks.
Although, I wonder if bow and arrow would have been the better tactical option.

It was at the Little Big Horn so I have read. Guys were struggling to load their single shot trapdoors while the sky was filled with arrows.
