Gentlemen & ladies,

Like most things in life, I am average, and shooting is no different for me. I can shoot a .45 casing out of a target with my Glock 19 within 5 shots on any given day, but I'm nothing special (this will be an important detail later...)

My dearest wife insisted on a handgun for my birthday, and I really didn't see any that I had to have --- after all, I've got my Glocks, 1911's and plenty of others. I have become quite bored with most handgun offerings these days, I own an example of most of the popular, and not-so-popular, offerings, so I didn't need anything. Pressed to make a decision, I asked the salesman for "something unique, something unlike anything I've ever seen before." He almost let me walk before pulling out a SPHINX SDP Compact from the case. And then the raving began, I now know what he was on about....

This weapon is AMAZING! The limiting factor in most cases is not the weapon, but the individual using it. I thought I had reached my pinnacle and that I could never be any more accurate --- turns out, I was mistaken. Maybe it's the low-bore axis combined with the very comfortable high grip, full length rail, and precise Swiss engineering, hell I don't know, nor do I really care, but if you review the pictures attached below, you will see that by my 15th shot, I was pretty deadly at 25 feet (5 shots, back-to-back at a regular tempo that you could cover up with your thumb), which is way further than I would typically practice.

If you haven't seen or heard the Sphinx, neither had I, but now you must check it out. Pardon my long winded details, but I'd have been remiss not to share my experience with this community of firearms enthusiasts . On paper, it may appear just an overpriced (could have 2x Glocks for the price of one) Swiss made CZ, but it is truly an exceptional firearm that sets a new benchmark for compact-sized accuracy. More models and configurations to hit our shores soon.

Wish I could take credit for the shooting, but I assure you it, it wasn't me. And YES, I am stoked by the purchase.

In reference to the build quality, it really is well-made, and with the KRISS takeover, they were able to shave 66% off the production costs and pass those savings on to the buyer. Traditionally, Sphinx pistols that have been popular in the European market for years cost between $2500-3000, so it's nice to see a more economical offering for the U.S. market. It's an interesting build actually. Steel slide + aluminum frame + polymer grip = SDP Compact (ALPHA). The "Black line" is steel slide + aluminum frame and runs about $150-250 more.

P.S. The wife was thinking SWISS made watch, but I prefer this much better, I think. If you agree, plant the seed & MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS!

Bri, out of curiosity, is English your native language? Your writing style suggests that it is not. I mean that as a compliment. Congrats on the awesome pistol.
Haha, as a matter fact, English is my first language, but I have had extended stays in various European countries growing up. I love to read and I studied linguistics at one point while an undergrad. My mother insisted on a particular pattern of speech and grammar, else she would not even acknowledge me as a child (hard nosed German that she is...). I suppose there may have been other reasons for that, too. My wife is perhaps an influence of mine as she does speak six languages with the same fluency as my English. Cheers!

Cool

Very interesting...

They look pretty interesting. I watched hickok45's video awhile back and he had some of the higher end ones too for comparison. I'd like to handle one in person. What was your point of aim on the 25ft group?
I think Hickok just did a solo video on the Sphinx 3000. He doesn't generally review the real high end stuff, so its nice to see.

Huh, I didn't realize he had done the 3000. Definitely fun to see him shoot something you can't just order off BudsGunShop.com. :wavey:

Yeah, here it is. Hickok has reviewed some nice classics, such as a Colt Python and T Series Hi Power, but ever anything real high end from Europe before this.

It's his friend's, apparently...

I've been waiting for a video on a Sig P210.
