Got one still don't know why, I shot it once and put it away.

Glock 17: original Glock. 4.48 inch (114mm) barrel. Usually fixed sights. Service pistol.
Glock 17L: introduced around 1988 to give competition shooters a Glock to play wth in IPSC-style events. 6.02 inch (153mm) barrel. Lighter trigger. Adjustable sights. Competition pistol.

Various shooting disciplines then restricted pistol length for stock pistols, using things like the IPSC Box. Stock Glock 17Ls then have to shoot with "race guns". Glock responds with:

Glock 34: in-between model and a huge hit: 5.31 inch (135mm) barrel. Lighter trigger. Adjustable sights. Fits the Box. Service and competition.

There's still enough interest in the 17L for Glock to make a couple thousand every few years. Note: the rules for the various shooting events are different, complicated and changeable. I simplified it. As someone who doesn't compete, I LOVE my 17L. Many find the 34 to be more versatile.

The same progression in .40 S&W caliber is: Glock 22 (4.48"), Glock 24 (6.02") and then Glock 35 (5.31").

Hope this helps!

yes, helps alot. thanks.

I can supply info about the last run of 17L and 24 pistols.

My 17L has a date of 7/26/11.

My 24 has a date of 9/29/11.

This would put the last run sometime during the 3rd Quarter of 2011.

The present run of 17L appears to be in the 2nd/3rd Quarter of 2014.

Always heard that Glock makes a run of 17L and 24 every 2-3 years or whenever they pretty much feel like it.

Don't have any info on 17l/24 production prior to 2011.

Thanks for the info.... I'm excited that a run of 24s may be coming soon as well.

This is just from the dealer I purchased my 17L on gunbroker during this last run. He said the numbers made on this run were much smaller then before. He was guessing that Glock was clearing out the frames from inventory.

No facts, just what I heard.

I was under the impression that the G17L frame is essentially the same as the G17 and the G34 frame.
