Beretta PX4 Storm Sub-Compact 9mm? Anybody have one? Is it a good reliable gun? Looking to get a new toy and considering getting my first Beretta.

I don't have one yet, but last visit to the gun shop I looked at the PX4 full and compact models. I decided when I do get one it will be the SA/DA compact type G- the full grip felt good, it uses high cap mag and it's well balanced. I also like the rotary barrel mechanism and the reported 'soft' shooting qualities. The sub-compact has tilt-breech design common to most semi-auto pistols.

It's fairly small, if you discount the fat slide and the rail (which are de rigueur on every stinking gun nowadays). Unlike the full size and compact models, the subcompact uses a Browning style tilting barrel instead of the rotating barrel. Mine came with the rear sight slightly off centered to the left and the gun shot to the left. A quick rap with a brass punch and hammer fixed it. Otherwise, very nice fit and finish. For the price, the gun is ridiculously good value.

Shoots well, seems to be reliable enough for me.

Uglier than a Glock? I doubt it. There's but one gun that's uglier than a Glock - a Hi Point.

I wanted one and almost bought one 2 years ago. But, I rented it. I just didn't care for the way it shot at all. I have many 92's, and have owned two PX4 fullsize guns before. So, I am very familiar with DA/SA. But, I the gun didn't shoot well for me.

But it's way to big to be a sub-compact. The compact model is only a tad bigger, holds 15+1, and has the rotating barrel. IMO, go for the compact.
I didn't buy one, but I reached the same conclusion after handling them. My daughter owns the compact in 9 mm and it is a gem - very soft shooting and accurate.

I have the Compact model and love it. Took me a while to figure out my stance was wrong for this gun. I use to hold my XD9 like I was holding a shotgun which is wrong for me and the PX4 Compact. Once I figured that out, it's an incredibly accurate shooter. It's also small enough for me to carry IWB. The sub-compact was only a skosh smaller and didn't have the rotary barrel and didn't carry 15+1 rounds.

If you want the subcompact to carry 15+ rounds, then stick the full size mag in it.

Seriously, of all the criticisms that can be contributed towards the subcompact, you guys complain about short magazine capacity? It's shorter for a reason: the grip is shorter.

I am most intrigued with the rotating barrel, I was unaware that the sub did not have it. Looks like a compact will be my choice.

Thank you for the help and sharing your knowledge.

I have the sub as well as the standard size PX4. Totally different guns! Stay with the rotating barrel models. Nothing wrong with the sub but the Nano does the job better with less bulk.

I just sold mine after having it a year. Really great gun but not for concealed carry.....at least not for me. It is big and thick.

Shoots incredibly well and accurate. It is nice knowing you have 13+1 rounds in your hand. But after a year trying to use it as a CCW handgun, I had quit carrying it and it lived in the glove box of my car while my Sig P238 or my Kel-Tec PF9 was IWB or pocket.

Mine was the sub-compact. My oldest daughter has the full size PX4 Storm as one of her CCW guns. But, of course, there is the handbag carry option for her. So it works. She teaches a womens' weapons course and loves the PX4.

I looked at the Nano the same day I bought the Sub. I could not hold the Nano well at all.

The De-cocker is a really nice feature.

I handled the sub and compact today. Sub is definitely out, and the compact had a couple issues i didn't like.

The first was the disassembling latch location. It was irritating to my trigger finger. Could be solved easily by rounding it off.

The second a big one was the way the firing pin block comes out of the top of the slide when pulling the trigger. Just a little pressure on top of it and the gun is inoperable. Am I worried too much about it? I'm troubled by a part of the firing mechanism being so vulnerable.
