It is a nice rifle, so long as you have either BUIS or an optic. I would go for it.

It is a good rifle, but selling a Colt to buy it would be more of a "side"grade than an upgrade. If you can afford it without selling the Colt, go for it. Otherwise the difference in cost from selling the Colt would be better spent in training and ammo.

I agree with WayaX. Other than the addition of a key mod rail, what do you think this gun will for you that your Colt won’t?
Figure out how much money you’re going to loose selling the 6920 and buying the BCM. Compare that to the cost of putting an ALG trigger, KM rail and a B5 (or similar) stock on the gun you already have.

My thought would be unless you are going to put a magnified optic you really aren't going to gain much.

It is a more flexible system. I am thinking of picking up something similar and putting HK sights because I miss the sight picture from the MP5s we used to use.

I'd run a set of troy tritium sights and a PRO.

Anybody have thoughts on this vs the 14.5 pinned version?
My first AR15 was a pinned 14.5" and as much as I loved that rifle I will never make that mistake again. Too much PITA to change out muzzle devices for slightly over an inch shorter bbl. If you're going to go short, SBR and go short IMO. I think that the 16" barrel is the perfect length all-around rifle for many reasons and if there were no NFA laws regarding length I think I'd have a 16" and longer and shorter but no 14.5" as it's just an odd length for several reasons. That's just my opinion from my experience though.

I think getting the 14.5" version would be a wise move. I have a mid-length 14.5" BCM with their Gunfighter Comp, and it is incredibly soft shooting. Until you experience one, it's difficult to explain, but the 14.5" barrel makes a real difference versus the 16" as far as dwell time and felt recoil. Don't worry about changing out muzzle devices, as there will be no need to do so.

And it comes with the B5 SOPMOD stock, the Keymod rail, ALG ACT trigger, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, BCM Gunfighter grip, all the stuff that really makes BCMs.....well, BCMs. They are much more than the sum of their parts.

If those specs are what you want, it's a good deal for your dollar. And believe me, there is nothing like opening up that BCM box, and finding a beautifully made AR that really suits you, and is engineered as a package to work really well.

The only reminder is that because BCM mid-length 14.5s are such soft shooters, some may not cycle crap, weak ammo very well. Other than that, you will be shocked at how much nicer it is than your 6920. It really is all about BCM's mid-length system, 14.5" barrel, properly weighted BCG and recoil spring, and Gunfighter comp, and how they work together.

When I made the jump to my BCM "The Jack" HSP carbine, I was truly shocked and impressed, and wished I had gotten one sooner. My only problem with it is that I'm too chicken-poop to rattle can it, as it's too damn pretty. Since yours is basic black, you can rattle can away and enjoy yourself.

Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

That would be blasphemous to rattle can that nice Cerakote color. Forgot what it's called but I like it.

I wouldn't sell one for the other, but I'd add it to the available selection.

I would just keep the lower and BCG and buy the upper that you want. You can get the BCM upper, stock, grip and trigger from BCM for $917.85 shipped. You can easily sell the Colt upper and stock for $4-500 to recoup some money.
Your math is off.

To re-use his Colt lower and BCG, and buy the rest of the stuff to duplicate the BCM, it would be $1058.00+ shipping. Then you have a franken-AR that is not worth nearly as much as a factory built AR.

The entire BCM AR, factory built and warrantied, is only $1380.00. You just can't beat that value if it's exactly what you want. The OP could get something like $700-$800 for his 6920 if it is in like-new condition.

FFS... Thank you for reminding me why I have taken time off from websites like this for a while and possibly indefinitely. Carry on...

All I am missing is the BCM charging handle and Magpul trigger guard. $53 more dollars still is nowhere close to $1050 plus shipping. Direct from BCM will be around $970 shipping included.

There's no reason to buy a 14.5" gun unless you just want to have a gun just like the troops carry. There are a lot of very good practical reasons to NOT buy a 14.5" gun such as the improved velocity and terminal performance of an already marginal round in a 16" gun vs 14.5" There is also the fact that there's very little practical difference in maneuverability of a 14.5" vs 16" gun. Of course if its not an SBR then the whole issue of permanently installed flash hiders comes up as well. If you want a SBR buy a 10-12 inch gun. Otherwise get the 16" and enjoy it.

Second is the carbine vs. mid length gas system. I hate carbine gas systems. They cause more problems than the solve. Mid length beats it all to hell. Get rid of the stupid Colt carbine and buy the mid-length. JMHO

The BCM is a nice gun and for the price you couldn't modify an off the shelf gun to configure it like that. Don't worry...someone might give you $700 for your used Colt! :)
