Yesterday I used a metal bore brush on my Glock 23 and it left scratches in the barrel. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

What happens when you scrub it out with the Plastic bristle brush supplied with the pistol?It looks to be copper, brass or bronze. There is no way these are residue left by the brush. It looks like the metal was scraped away.
I cleaned it thoroughly according to the included instructions using the brush that came with the pistol. It didn't help. There are grey streaks in the barrel and each of the scratches is in one of the areas that has a grey streak. Could those streaks be lead deposits? I have put about 200 rounds of fmj through the gun, and 5 rounds of jhp.What happens when you scrub it out with the Plastic bristle brush supplied with the pistol?
Could be left over residue...
Did you run a clean patch, and now you see the 'scratches'?
Good to hear! I will try to clean it better. I didn't think i had fired it enough to cause that much buildup. I've only fired it about 200 times.Man, I have used nothing but Stainless bore brushes for years and never been able to hurt a barrel in any way. Sounds like you have cleaned through PART of the built up crud and still have some cleaning to do. I bet when you get the rest of it out there will be nothing that looks like scratches.
I'm thinking adamantium.What metal was the brush?
More likely, your barrel isn't really clean and you are looking at scratches in your dirt. I use stainless steel brushes in my Glock barrels when they are really dirty - have for many years. No problems.It looks to be copper, brass or bronze. There is no way these are residue left by the brush. It looks like the metal was scraped away.
This. No problem with SS brushes. Use sparingly and wet. Won't harm anything. That's why they make them.I use stainless steel brushes in my Glock barrels when they are really dirty - have for many years. No problems.
No, only about 200 fmj and 5 jhpMore likely, your barrel isn't really clean and you are looking at scratches in your dirt. I use stainless steel brushes in my Glock barrels when they are really dirty - have for many years. No problems.
Have you shot any lead (unjacketed) bullets?
:rofl::rofl:...
Now I feel like a nerd. I had lunch across the street from a nerd store (comics, games, etc.) and it must have infected me.
Chore Boy pad.........If you want to save a little time...get a bronze Brillo type (scouring) pad...most dollar stores and Wal-Mart have them...pull a few strands off and wrap them around an old bore brush...wrap enough that it is a tight fit in the barrel...and then scrub...this is an old Revolver trick used by us old-timers who used to shoot soft-lead in our revolvers...sometimes this will clean when all other options won't...just a thought
