I was wondering what your thoughts where on the sig P225(P6) vs the sig P239. Both are single stack 9. Just wondering if their is a good reason for owning both.

My opinion is that the P225 is a much more classic pistol.

Ive owned both, and no longer have either. Both are good guns, although the P6 versions need some upgrading.

The most blatant thing I noticed with both was, they both are basically the same size as the P228/229, and carry only half the ammo. I didnt see much point in them after that.

If those two are the choice, then either will be fine.

If you go with a P6, at the very least, you will probably want to change out the mainspring if you want a commercial feel DA trigger. Depending on the age and condition, the rest of the springs, and maybe the barrel as well. I also put night sights on both of mine.

The single stack is the best part about them.

But they are a single stack that is for the most part, as wide as double stack. Its not like they are a big difference smaller, they arent.

Hey, if you like the 225, or the 239, thats cool. They are great guns, like most SIG's. I personally, preferred the extra capacity in the supposedly "full size" guns. I figured if they are the same size, carry and shoot the same, might as well have the extra ammo.

My favorite SIG grip was the P250, followed by the P226. The 225/P6's grip is more like the 228/229. The P239 as they come, are a little to skinny in the palm for my liking. The gun moved around a lot while firing. It would have been nice if SIG had offered a factory panel with a little more "swell" in the palm. Houge can remedy that if you find that to be the case.

The P239 is slighlty smaller and contoured for CCW a little bit more. They are pretty close is size and either would make a great carry gun.

Some P6's that haven't been upgraded dont feed JHP very well. Might wanna check into that.

I love my P239 9mm, been carrying it for years.

The size is so close I'd say it depends on whether you want a stainless slide or a carbon steel slide with a pinned breach block. The stainless slides are more durable IMO, but in a 9mm gun probably has more rounds left in it than you will shoot in a lifetime.

Magazines for the P6 aren't as easy to come by these days, or as cheap, but all Sigs mags are infuriatingly high the last few years. AIM suprlus has some used P6 mags for $20, that's not a bad deal if you dont mind used mags.

There's always a good reason to own both: because you want to. That's reason enough for me. However, if I were to pick one, it'd be the P225/P6. I can't remember the last time I shot my P239. It came with the short trigger (not to be confused with the short reset trigger) and it just didn't work well with me, but I got it for cheap so in the gun safe it stayed.

As far as the P225/P239 grip frame dimensions are similar to P228/P229? I'd say no way. The P228/P229 feel fat in one's hand. The P225 is just about perfect.

I've owned both. They are both excellent, in reliability terms. No longer have the P239, however. Did not like the grip (too small for me).
Whoever says the P225 and P228 are "basically the same size", sorry, that's just not true.
Grip the P225 in your hand, and then the P228, with your eyes closed, then tell me if they are the same size. As said above the P225 grip is just about perfect.

Just to give you an idea where Im coming from here, heres my 239 against one of my 229's. The size differences are only very slight.

To give you another idea of how close they were, my P6's fit in my P226's holsters, perfectly, with the only difference being the barrel length. My P226's would go right into the P6 holsters was well, and the the P229's, would also, but were a little more "snug", due to them being thicker in the slide.

Since Ive had this discussion earlier elsewhere, Ive actually done that with a couple of people (I used a P6 vs 229), and they couldnt tell which was which. Im guessing some of you guys must have a high sensitivity level or something. At the wideset part of the grip, the P229 is 1.5", the P225/P6, 1.3".

If youre looking for the "perfect" SIG grip, I always "felt" the P250 accomplished that.

"Feel" is subjective, and what feels good to one, may not to someone else. Having used all the above on a day to day basis, I never really "felt" that there was enough of a difference between the "larger" SIGs and their so called "compacts" (other than the 230/232, and now a couple of others) to realize a difference. I easly carried the 226 in the same holster and same place, as my P6, with no issues. But then again, thats me. A lot of people will tell you you cant carry/conceal a P226 under a light shirt, and in the next breath tell you that the P225 or 239 will. Go figure.

Hey, get what floats your boat, and by all means, get a P225 and P239. Ive had and used most all of the P series SIG's, except for the P210 and a few of the recently released models. For the most part, they are good guns, well, my P238 was the only one I had that wasnt, but then again, its not a true P series gun. Up until recently, other than the 230/232's, SIG always had weird ideas as to what "compact" was, and all their models were very similar in size, single or double stack.

In conceal carry, every little little dimensional difference counts. It also depends on a person's body habitus. Also, can conceal and can conceal comfortably are 2 different things. The pics of the P239 against the P229 show that I can comfortably cc the 239 than the 229, even with the nonfactory fatter wood grip.
And, for sure I can cc the P228 more comfortably than the P226 (no longer own).

Oh yeah, whatever floats your boats.

For me I would personally take the P229 over both the P225/P6 or the P239. I have carried the P229 several years IWB and it was very comfortable. However, you can pick up a P6/225 got a great price.

Here are pics of the P225 v P228 with all factory grips.

I also have had and still have both. I can't decide which one I like best. So I kept them both. I do shoot the P239 best but that may be because I have shot it more than the P225. They are both great guns for sure.
