OK, here's the setup: I took my brand new, never been fired Gen3 G30sf to the range to try it out. Got 150 RN factory bullets through without a hitch. Loaded up some Magtech 230gr +P JHP and get about 12 through, again, no problem.

13th round and gun jams. Cannot pull slide back and it IS in battery, trigger all the way back. Won't fire, trigger stuck, slide won't move and I am stumped. So I come home to peruse the wisdom in this forum, but to no avail.

So I got the slide back just enough so that I could pry the back plate off. Back plate off, extractor rod and spring pop out and I get the striker out (whew!:wow:).

Extractor and striker safety w/spring drops out. Got the slide off and bullet is fully seated in the chamber. Used a small wooden dowel to push bullet out and it drops.

Slight FP mark on primer. But, get this, bullet is NOT really jammed, bulged or deformed in any way. Compared it to a new, unfired round and it is identical. Both fit the chamber the same and all looks all right.

I am going to take gun down the rest of the way and inspect it, clean it and see if it cycles all right empty.

This has me a bit baffled (not hard to do....) and I can't see what could have been jamming. Bullet OK, chamber clean (enough) all parts loose and nothing seems amiss.

When the slide came off the bullet was in the chamber, unfired, light primer strike mark, loose. I had about 162 rounds through the gun before it jammed. This is perplexing. Any ideas?

Just a guess but if you needed to push the round out of the chamber with a wood dowel and the round had not fired, I am thinking the issue may be the size of the round. But that's just a guess.

Sometimes a bullet can get seated in the brass too deep and cause the case to bulge. Then when the round gets fed into the chamber the bulge jams the cartridge in the chamber locking up gun.

At this point I could see no problems anywhere in the gun. And I looked real close! I'm tending to agree that possibly it was a bad round.

Not jammed jammed, but a little stuck. I tossed the bullet. Not worth the potential of happening again. I feel setback isn't an issue because it was a new box in a brand new gun.

Bad manufacturing of round? Maybe. All others left from box of 20 fit without binding. Next trip out I am gonna keep a little better watch on rounds when I load them up.

Everything at this point looks fine. Clean, lubed and ready for 2nd try. And maybe no more Magtech. Never had problems other times in other guns with it, but may be a first time.

Thanks for all the quick replies!

Cardboard boxes of ammo can get "Slightly" crushed on the corners and the individual boxes may not reveal the damage. As a matter of fact without the use of a micrometer you may never notice the setback of the bullet in the casing. Sometimes it is obvious to the eye if you open and hold the whle box up for inspection.

Sounds like thatt or just some dirt between the casing and the chamber. Try cleaning your chamber and remove the barrel from the pistol. Drop test several roulds from your next batch of ammo to ensure they fit.

Remove the ammo for the site and reconfigure the pistol.

WAS THE RSA IN PLACE When you removed the slide ?
Yep. When I got the back plate off and everything dropped out :)wow:) the RSA was still in place as I removed the slide. Their was nothing that would have indicated that any problem had taken place.

You know what? THAT is probably exactly what happened! As I read that I remembered that I opened the box of ammo on the bench (indoor range) and dumped the Magtech rounds out for loading. Mixed in with the bullets was a bunch of broken plastic pieces (the "carrier thingie" that the bullets sat in the box) had broken and being made of plastic, it was parts of this that I found.

Maybe the round that stuck WAS a bit out of spec from being smacked during transit. Couldn't see it, but looking at the crushed plastic it could easily have affected some (at least one!!!) of the rounds. Thanks, I feel better!

Robert, here's the big problem; It only takes one bullet to jam like that and cause the slide to not quite go all the way into battery and kABOOM! Gun fires out of battery. Probably a bit late now, but you should have checked every single round in that box to see if any were out of spec. I've had brand new ammo with no damage that was seated too deep and bulged and wouldn't chamber properly because of it. I no longer buy that ammo. Sounds to me like the problem was caused by the ammo getting slammed in the box, though. But, now at least, you know to keep an eye out for such things. Glad nothing went kaBOOM. It always happens when you least expect it.

Well, I took the remaining Magtech rounds from the magazine I was using and did the "plop test" (hadn't done that for a while since some .22s were acting up a few years ago) and they all did fine. Good "plop" and none sticky or seemingly out of spec.

Did a quick check with a cheap-o micrometer and all were the same. And I DID fish that bad round outta the trash bin  and it, too, plopped and spec'd the same as the other 8 rounds.

Maybe a bit more unclear now, but gun looks and cycles fine manually. Will shoot the balance of my Magtech next week along with some more factory stuff.
