So, I just got a maglink and when I tried to install it, it wouldn't fit. I have a black and fde mag. It does not seat on the ridges of the black mag. Are they gen 1 or something?

Make sure you have the maglink installed in the right direction, and sitting in the correct ribs on the magazine.
Try reversing the mags (ie: swap positions of the FDE and black mags).
See if there are any obvious bumps or protrusions on the mag or inside the maglink that could be the problem.
If all else fails, take pics, and post them here.

Look at the black one again, The bottom ribs are spaced differently. It's marked as a PMAG OE - I assume that's an OEM magazine that came with some brand of rifle.
OP, I get the feeling your black mag isn't going to fit. I'd suggest trying another non-OEM magazine.
You're right, the black one has the same mold pattern as the old Pmags.

The PMAGs that came with my M&P are marked "OE". I never noticed that they have a different pattern.
