I chose the 357 Sig, not that I believe it is superior to any other personal defense round ballisticly, but because of the bottle neck design.
I’ll throw this out for discussion, take it as you will.
I just think that the 357 Sig round feed more reliably than any straight/tapered round. I’ve fired over 5 thousand rounds through my G31 and the only time I’ve ever had a FTF was when I was working up some reloads with 125 gr. Lead TC, once I got the COL correct for that bullet design, it fed flawlessly, I can’t say that with any other round that I shoot and reload for.

They are both solutions to problems that no longer exist, but the 40 is the better of the two. 20 years ago the Sig round wound have been perfect, but bullets dont have expanding at their designated velocities anymore.
Nothing between the 9mm and 10mm is worth it anymore, heh.

I have a G23 and a SigPro 2340. I admire the .357 Sig but I feel the .40 S&W is a better SD round for the masses. I am sure I will need my flame suit on this one, but it is just my own opinion.
They are both effective, I just left you my choice.

Cost
.40cal around here $13-18 for target ammo $25-$35 SD ammo per 50rd. The sig is $27-$35 for target ammo per 50rd & same for 20rd of SD ammo.
The .40 gives you more options for ammo vs the sig but, who needs that when the sig can give you 500ftlbs+ all day :rofl: The sig is my EDC round #1 it feeds better than any tapered case. #2 never FTF for me. #3 the DGHP will do all you need.

Love both rounds but I like the .357 Sig a little more. For a 125gr round you can beat that.

I have been considering this for my G23, as well,
I don't think there is going to a significant difference in terminal performance between the two chamberings.
However, there is going to be a significant difference in price and availability of factory ammunition. I've also found .40 S&W pistols to be more reliable feeders. Not to say that the Sig cartridge can't be reliable, but rounds nosediving into the feed ramp is not an unheard of condition.
That said, I love my Glock 33... it's fun little gun to shoot.

I've always felt the 357SIG is the better defensive load for various reasons. Most are summed up in the following podcast by people who have been there and done that or know others personally who have been there and done that. Mas Ayoob is part of the comentary. You will here more detail about more aspects of the 357SIG than you ever will here including actual street results.

Slower bullet, not as accurate. If you want a really accurate 40 caliber, then shoot a 10mm. Also a stronger round.

Agree on the 10mm and I love that round but my G23 is way more then accurate for self defense in any situation.
This is what I've done, along with a 9mm conversion barrel that gives me the best range of choices. (AA .22 kit on order.)

.40 is more versatile.
Want .357 Sig performance just load your .40 with some 135 gr bullets. Want a big heavy bullet load.it with a 180. Want something in between load it with a 155 or 165.
With the .357 Sig you get 125 gr and that is about it.

I did this, I bought a G23C and got a .357 barrel back in 03. I used a .357 marked mag, you can use the 40 mags but I preferred the .357 Sig to have its own mag
