I have been thinking it would be a good idea to have some backing in case of a self defense shooting with either my wife or me. I have been looking into the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. has anyone else looked into them or have any experience with them? with all of the stories I have heard about people involved in SD shootings I think it might be wise to have something like this. the cost dosen't seem to much.

Yes. Highly recommended. First, because they get on your side from the start; it's not a case of "spend your own money, we'll reimburse you when you're acquitted". And second, because the quality of their experts is superb.

I just renewed my membership($85) just the other day. Running around trying to find a self-defense lawyer after using your weapon I don't believe is a good idea and if you are locked up then that job will fall on your family member which is still not a good idea. When I first joined the ACLDN I spoke with a Network Affiliated self defense lawyer in my area just to familiarize myself with him and he with me. He told me if I ever have a problem to just call him either during business hours or on his cell phone. Network Affiliated lawyers are also members on the Network if I am not mistaken.

although I am probably going sign both my wife and me up I am surprised this thread has not got more responses. this seem like such a good thing that can make the difference between good and bad shoot in the eyes of the courts. here in Ohio and many other states you must present an affirmative defense in a self defense shooting which means the burden of proof is on YOU.

I highly recommend the "Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network." Not just for the coverage if you are involved in a shooting. The DVD's you receive when you join Plus the monthly online Journal is very informative. Again I highly recommend The Armed Citizens Defense Network. http://www.armedcitizensnetwork.org/

I don't know about the specific company you offer, but I have kept ARAG, which is similar, ever since my work started offering it. It has paid for itself many times over.

Im looking through their website trying to put everything together...Maybe one of you can help out in how it all works? They pay a fee for your lawyer, "I dont have a lawyer" would I then use the NRA's self defense legal persons or? Any help would be appreciated as I would really like to have something set up soon.

as I understand it they review your case and with the help of their experts and legal people prepare a strategy with your attorney or an affiliated attorney in your area that will handle your case. then they will figure the amount of fees needed to be paid for attorney fees. the other thing is they send you DVDs and other info dealing with SD situations and the laws which is huge concidering the experts they have. the help is not only if you shoot but also if you don't. they will assist in other SD situations when you have to defend yourself.
their help starts right at the beginning which is the most important time you need help.
I always worried about defending myself because of legal jeopardy, for the price this is just what I need.

Apparently my post got lost when the servers got busy. I'll try again...

Has anyone been unfortunate enough to be in an SD incident and called upon this organization? If so, how would you rate their performance / support throughout the aftermath?

Obviously not expecting you to cite the details of the incident itself. Just looking for feedback from someone that actually used them.

Thanks!

P.S. From what I've read, the organization seems quite valuable. Just looking for someone feedback from those that have used them.

1. This is an awesome organization. The Board of Advisers reads like a Who's Who of defensive handgun training (Massad Ayoob, Tom Givens, Dennis Tueller, et al).

2. Your membership benefits include:
* A set of DVD's covering self defense topics, with an additional DVD sent out each time you renew.
* Assistance in finding a good, experienced "gun guy" attorney in your area (or the jurisdiction in which you are arrested and tried -- for instance you might shoot in self defense while traveling in another state).
* Immediate cash payment of $10,000 to "jumpstart" your defense if you are arrested following a self defense shooting. This money is sent to your attorney.
* "Boots on the Ground" assistance from staff attorneys, to not only help you find a network-affiliated attorney, but also to work with your attorney and help plan a defense strategy. If needed, a network representative will fly to your location and help coordinate this.
* Access to expert witnesses to assist with strategy and testify on your behalf
* Additional funding, if circumstances warrant, from the network's legal defense fund.
* Discounts on self defense books and DVD's
* Monthly online Journal
* Access to members-only forum

This is a lot for $85
