Doesn't smell like Hoppes 9.

Elite is water based and pretty easy on the hands, barely any smell, and works very well to clean my handguns.

I buy the larger bottle not the trial size pictured on the hoppes website.

 

Or M-Pro 7 which is similar. Often said to be the same stuff, but a maker's rep said on one of the gunboards that there are detail differences.

 

Hoppe's Elite is what I use inside.

 

Isopropyl alcohol and Remington bore scrub works pretty well. I use gunzilla for my lp portion of the clp process

I've been using this for years. My workshop is in the basement, right below the kitchen. Virtually odorless.

Eezox and Break Free both have rather pleasant smells.
My wife made me quit using ballistol because she said it stunk the house up like dirty gym clothes. I agree, it does smell awful, but I never cared because it works so well.

G96 sort of reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum, plus it works pretty well on cleaning the AR parts...

 

Gunzilla to clean and lube. Lube & wipe, a thin layer is enough. Doesn't get gunked up with dust, either. I love it. It's even non-toxic!

 

#9 is one of my favorite smells!

If you need a orderless cleaner, try Breakfree CLP. Its better at lubing than cleaning, but it works for cleaning.

I like the smell. Reminds me of the Saturdays after hunting, as a kid, that we used to clean the guns and watch wrastling on tv. Gun solvent and shoe polish take me right back to those days.....good times.

 

Wife prefers her guns be cleaned with Hoppes #9 because she associates the scent of Hoppes with growing up on the ranch. In her childhood the scent of a freshly cleaned gun probably meant fresh meat for supper. Times were hard during her child days. Mostly hunted ducks with Dad when we were growing up and he used Hoppes #9 for the gun cleaner. Have tried other solvents and more or less they all work but #9 is the one.

 

Have you ever tried any of the water based cleaners? They have a citrus type of smell.

I second bigleaf's use of Gunzilla, easy on the hands, easy on the nose, and cleans like Mr.Clean, plus leaves metal with coating of lubrication and protection.
