PSA 16" middy Dissipator

Bought one, set it up on my DPMS lower and took it to the range yesterday. Fired 400 rounds of handloads using SS109 on top of varget. It grouped about 5" with 15 shots fired at 100yds using a Comp ML2, not too bad with for a 4MOA dot I suppose. I forgot my sled so I had to make due with my range bag. Function wise, not a single hiccup. The PSA bolt was TIGHT. When disassembling it to clean it prior to the range trip I had a hell of a time putting the bolt back into the carrier. It got a good cleaning and then a coat of oil and off we went. It was a warm 80ish degrees with some mild-strong gusts of wind, but still a good day for this area.

I didn't get a picture of my target I shot with my 3-9x Vortex Diamondback with the SS109 before the wind ripped it off and blew it to the next state, but it was grouping about 2" at 100yds with 12 rounds fired. I never got a chance to look at it up close, only through the optic.

The finish matches up perfect with my DPMS lower. I am also using the PSA lower parts kit in this rifle, only thing I changed were the trigger and hammer springs to the JP 3.5# springs. PMags still fit a little tight in the DPMS mag well, but GI mags move freely through.

Again, Zero malfunctions in 400 rounds fired. Looked like the best I could do was about 2 MOA with a magnified optic and 5MOA with a CompML2 red dot.

I've never used the magpul MOE furniture before, I've always used either knights rails, midwest rails, or original guards and grips. But this MOE stuff is comfortable! The gun weighed in at just over 6lbs unloaded, so it should be just over 7lbs with a full 30rd magazine. Total build cost: $675 (already had the aimpoint and rear MBUS from another rifle that has since retired.)

Upper - $450
Lower - $90
Lower Build Kit - $125
JP Springs - $10

Bottom line: Another happy PSA customer, they are the real deal!

Ok, stupid noob question here, what are the benefits/appeal of a dissipator style? Or is it just for looks? And why are there so many mock dissipators out there?
Some of the benefits are the rifle length sight radius and longer handguard to hold.

Why "mock"? From PSA:

Once upon a time, a "dissipator" AR was created by taking a 20" rifle-length gas system upper and cutting the barrel down to 16". This allowed the shooter to keep the long sight radius of a rifle for accuracy, but keep the carbine length barrel for maneuverability. The proximity of the gas port to the muzzle, however, played havoc with timing and made reliability a hit or miss proposition. Advances in AR technology have produced reliable carbine and mid-length gas systems, that can be hidden using low-profile gas blocks. This allows for a front sight base to be pinned in the rifle position for the longer sight radius without the worry of the unorthodox gas port location affecting operation. We use the term "mock" to differentiate our dissipator from a cut-down rifle length version. Our Premium Mid-length mock dissipator uses a 4150 CMV steel barrel that is chrome-lined for durability and lead-lapped for accuracy.

That is the exact rifle other than the DPMS lower that I want as soon as I get the funds together.

I will be using a PSA lower with the FIRE/SAFE markings instead of the pictograms.

Unless I find that Aero Precision doesn't make that lower. Then I'll have to go with the pictograms although I hate pictures where words should be.

Makes it look cheapish to me.

Aero Precision makes all PSA lowers.

And PSA is the best bargain out there, IMO

PSA answered this question on tos industry forum couple months ago. Thier AP prefix serial numbered lowers are made by aero precision (low shelf). They switched to another vender on the LW prefix lowers. (high shelf). As PSA was changing venders the pictograms were still AP and the fire/safe were the newer LW. As of now all palmetto lowers are made by LW and are high shelf.
