Looking at possible getting a fanny pack holster to carry my G19 in as a quick, easy option. I know they aren't the ideal carry method, but it is quick and easy and I can use with whatever I happen to be wearing. My primary attire is shorts/t-shirt so that is another reason. I do have an IWB holster that works well, but unfortunately, most of my pants don't have enough extra room & can't afford to replace my wardrobe. I like the 5.11 Tactical Select Carry Pistol Pouch. It comes in colors other than just black, so maybe it won't scream "gun" as much as the standard black ones might. Anybody used this model? Looking for some feedback/recommendations before buying.

They just plain scream gun. That's my opinion. Would not use one. Look at smartcarry or something more like that.

Here, it works if you're wearing sandals with socks, and a big patch of sunblock on your nose. Seriously, is this a common way to dress out by you?

(I've been known to wear a fanny pack when out on a run.)

I wouldn't wear it all the time, but the above is the one time I do.

They only "scream gun" to gun owners. Most people are so oblivious to what goes on around them, you can be standing right next to them open carrying, and they won't notice.

Exactly.

Either you are the guy described above, or you're carrying a gun. It's not advantageous to tell people - "hey, I have a gun. But it's zipped in this little pocket here, with my breath spray."

And criminals.
What makes you think it screams gun to a criminal? I'm guessing criminals see it and think you're gay at most.

If that's the case, someone w/ a fanny pack would never get robbed, as the crook would likely just move on to an easier target.

Gay at most! sounds like a college band name.

Criminals are adept at picking out targets, threats etc. Criminals size people up just like cops do. It's survival of the fittest. Especially for criminals.

Thanks for all the replies, however, does anyone have any more suggestions other than replacing my wardrobe for easier carry? I looked at the Smartcarry holster suggestion & it looks like it would have the same issue as an IWB holster, needing a little extra room. Plus I'm not crazy about carrying my gun next to my "vital" areas so to speak. I know the fanny packs are rather dorky & can tip some people off that I might be carrying, but I think I would rather risk that and have a gun, than not have my gun at all. I read an idea somewhere about someone taking a Nike swoosh logo off of something and sewing/attaching it to the front of a fanny pack to help camouflage it a little better. That and not getting a standard black one. Anyway, just looking for suggestions, this wouldn't be a primary carry option for me. I was just looking for another option, especially in the summer when it is in the 90's and I am in t-shirt/shorts/sandals(sorry no socks or sunscreen on the nose). I will also start buying clothing with carrying in mind, but can't replace everything at once.

I live by the beach, hot all the time. Mostly t-shirt, shorts. My biggest problem/wardrobe change was going from board shorts and no underoos 24/7 to regular shorts :( It killed me. But whatever. I am pretty skinny and most of my shirts are slim/med. I do get large shirts now sometimes. I carry a g26 in a kingtuk iwb. Works good. I have had no problems yet. But it being hot and being against my body it gets sweat on the gun sometimes. But cleaning time is bonding time.

Maybe venture from a g19 to g26 (love mine) or try to get your hands on some dif holsters to try.

Everyone knows that MMM fanny packs work best.

In the summer I use a brown Roma Leather fannypack. I am also an old fart and can away with it. When wearing shorts (most of the summer) I use the fanny pack with a G 26 in it. I also have another Roma fanny pack for G 36 or similar size weapon. IMHO you use what works for you. Several other makers (DeSantis,Bulldog, etc.)have pouches for the Ruger LCP and similar size weapons. These things look like cell phone or PDA holders.

I'm on my third CCW permit and have carried everyday in a fanny pack. In that time I've never been stopped by a cop or questioned by another citizen. Sometimes I wear the fanny pack with a 5.11 vest, just to keep the b!@#$%^s guessing!

I would not go with a fanny pack - too difficult to access weapon, especially if attacked. You may have to alter your wardrobe to carry well. I usually wear a short-sleeved, button-front, untucked shirt in the summer. Make sure it is long and wide enough to hide that Glock, which I carry in a Glock Sport/Combat holster. Good Luck.

My carry wardrobe as well! Summer is the only time that really presents concealment issues - when you are trying to wear as little as possible and remain decent. I use the Glock holster in the summer to avoid the "rivers of butt sweat" (mentioned in another thread - still havent got rid of the mental image!) - otherwise I like the Galco King-Tuk holster.

You really need to weigh the drawback of draw speed with such a carry method. I would not be comfortable with it personally. It would be ok for occasional use but I'd prefer even pocket carry over a fanny pack (of course pocket carry rules out the G19 but that's why I have a J-frame and PM9).
