Hello all. I am in the market for a black rifle and looked at both of these. With the exceptions of markings, both appeared to be identical. Both had a 16" barrel, collaspible buttstock, and removable carrying handle with a rail up top for mounting optics. Price wise, they were worlds apart. The Colt was going for $1500. The Spike's was $900. I've heard that the Colt is as close to milspec as you can get in the civilian market and has good quality. Looking at the specs on Spike's website makes me think the same is true for the ST-15, but honestly, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around alot of the technical jargon they used. My question is, "Is the Colt that much better? Or would I just be paying for the Colt brand?"

First off I think I'd look around for someone else selling a 6920. $1500 seems quite high. I've seen posts from guys finding them for close to $500 less than the number you listed.
Linky for $500 6920?

Either choice is fine but the Colt will always hold its value (unless you modify the rifle with a bunch of crap) to most AR aficionados. Spikes is a hot brand today but who knows what tomorrow will hold for them. I have a weak spot for pretty much any Colt product as long as it is stock or the previous owner saved all the stock parts.

I own 2 Spike's Tactical rifles, a 16" midlength carbine, and a lightweight carbine. The quality is VERY nice, and I think they're the best value on the market. That being said, I'd get a Colt 6920. They can be had all over for around $1000 now. Whenever prices spike (sorry, couldn't resist) Colts are the most in demand.
Good luck,
Brad

Have had a Colt A2 on long-term borrow and loved shooting it, but eventually had to give it back to the owner - we had exchanged rifles for a while.

I bought a Spike's mid-length not long ago and am very pleased with it. The pony rollmark is nice, but for my money, I'd go with Spike's. Keep in mind my opinion is based on limited experience with AR's and I do not claim to be an expert.

Trust me when I say I'm a big time Spike's fan (three rifle's).
I would get the Colt. It's an investment. You can't lose in the long run.

just picked up a spikes on Monday and i love it. That said, if the Colt was equal in price, i would have bought that. Seems to be the standard against which all others are judged.
