The battery in my Walkman (Sony NWZ-E345) is getting weak. Replacement batteries are not available from Sony, and it's not really worth it to send a $100 player for out-of-warranty service.

How would I find a Li-Ion battery of the right size? It's almost square (38 x 40mm) and very thin (2.5mm), has 2 wire leads. A search on eBay ("li-ion battery" in the "batteries and chargers" category) returns 2500 results, but I didn't see anything that would fit.

Is there a secret place where one could find or cross-reference a battery of a certain size?

I'm guessing the battery is coated in plastic? You will probably have to cut it open to get the model number of the battery.

There is no external wrap, just one layer of silver plastic with all the lithium "guts" right under it. The Sony part number is printed on the battery, but it does not do me any good. Google does not know about that part number either. :dunno:

Close, but no cigar. My battery is almost square. Either way, $48 battery for a $100 player is a bit out of line.

Those are way too thick. The one in my player is only 2.5mm. (That's 0.1" for Americans. Or 3/32" for those who don't understand decimal fractions.) If not for the thickness, I could probably find a cell phone battery that would fit.

Either way, I think my best chance is to find a "donor" player on eBay for a few bucks.

I would take a picture of it, and post this question on some large consumer electronics forum.

The actual voltage on the charged battery was about 3.9V, so I assume it's single cell (would be kinda hard to stack more than one cell in such a thin package).

You might consider a trek down to a battery store. They were able to quickly find the battery I needed.

Although, after hearing the price, I decided that newer is more better and trashed my dinosaur.

Yep, store prices are quite ridiculous to those of us who are used to buying batteries direct from China.

One day I needed a cell phone battery, so I stopped at RadioShack. I was prepared to pay maybe $15 or $20, considering it's a "brick-and-mortar" store with all related expenses. The price sticker was... $60. :shocked:

I laughed at them and bought a brand new battery on eBay for $3.99 shipped.

I have the same problem with my NWZ-E345. The code numbers on mine are: 1-756-925-11, LIS1425HNPC, 9817A21782, SE W, US274237A9H, 01064S109RH02B. Measurements are: L=41.275mm, W=38.1mm, THICKNESS=1.58mm. If I find one, I will post it here.
