Hi

Just like they topic says. I need a new slide to my Glock 17.
I want good quality but i dont have alot of money.

Is it clever of stupid to buy a used slide?
Do you think ppl sell slids with crack in them but dont tell?
Can i trust the adds here on GT??
What sites are there for used fun parts?
I only know the one here and gunbroker

Do what I did with my OD23C. Buy a good condition used G17. Sell the frame. That is the most cost effective way to buy a complete slide. Trust me. It may take more work, but you can save over a hundred dollars off the retail price of a complete slide.

Why do you need a new slide??????

Wondering the same thing. I would guess if there is a specific issue with the original slide that Glock might assist in correcting it.

To address your other questions: I would be surprised if you found a *cracked* used slide, but the best value used pistols will be police turn-ins which will have a holster-worn slide. On here, you might not get as much holster wear, but you'll pay more. Sellers here are in my experience mostly reputable, especially guys with an online reputation to protect. I'd be more leery of a low count/new poster who doesn't seem to have an online presence at any of the big gun websites.

I like LWD's slides for the money, but you may want to get it coated, since they are normally bare stainless. Stainless is much more corrosion resistant than blue steel, but not as corrosion resistant as the OEM tennifer. Once it's coated, IMO it's better than OEM, but you aren't getting it cheap by the time you get parts and the coating cost. That assumes too you know (or are wiling to learn) how to install the parts yourself. A gunsmith would add more to the coast.)

So for the "wisdom" of choosing a custom slide, it returns to the question people asked you above- Why? If it's cost/value, the OEM glock is pretty well optimized in that direction.

If you want to tweak/personalize/improve your pistol, the first dollars/effort you put into it are better put towards improving the trigger. After that, some people like the grip monkeyed with. Personally, I like the grip the way it is, with the exception of a grippier texture- So grip tape or sticky grip panels gets my next Glock Improvement Dollars.

There's really nothing "wrong" with the OEM slide, so that's the lowest value mod in my book... I just do it because I like the custom touches on the LWD slide, and sometimes I like to do goofy things like put longer slides on than the frames came with, etc. Then you sell off the OEM slide to recoupe some of the cost.

Its too bad that you want a full sized. I am looking for a sub compact frame.
It amazes me how the slides, alone, cost so much more than the frames.
Oh, and WELCOME to GT!

I've found that Lone Wolf replacement slides are far more "cheap" than they are "good'. Find a used OEM Glock slide. It will be worth any additional expense.

So the original glock slide is better then Lone wolfs slide?

I dont have a upper so thats why i need a slide.
I was gonna buy a lone wolf barrel to. Are they not good?
I dont know anyone that have them but i need a barrel that shoot led and the original is not good for that. Im want preccision(im sorry for my bad spelling)
Is the LW barrel the way to go or should i pick a other and in that case witch should i pick?

Man I dont care what THEY say, I have 3 Lone Wolf slides and barrels in use right now and they are excellent quality. You can probably get a stock slide cheaper, but to say it's better than LWD . I couldn't and wouldn't say that. I own 17 Glocks and 3 of which I ordered brand new Glock lowers for have LWD slides and barrels on them. Absolutely FLAWLESS, one is 45 acp 6inch long slide, one is 357 sig 6inch solid top long slide and last but not least is a complete 9mm 34 upper on a G 19 lower. I am not slamming Glocks in any way shape or form, but like I said, to say their better than LWD, wouldn't do that for all the $$$$ in the world.

I share your amazement that suppliers charge $260 for a completely empty 10mm/45ACP Glock slide, without any internal parts. I can appreciate the fact it's a new, Glock OEM slide, nevertheless, it's surprising what they can get for it.

+1

I dont understand it. The stripped slide cost as much as a half complete gun.
Thats just sick.

I would buy a new gun if i could but i dont want to sell this frame becouse its a gen1 and i cant get more stuff in my since im gonna buy a ar15 soon(when i have lern more about it)

I have posted a ad that say that i want to buy a slide so i hope to her from someone soon. I`m not in a hurry but in a week would be great.

Are there not anymore used gun/ parts sites then gunbroker and here?

I would say the only place to buy a "GOOD", "CHEAP" slide would be off the street....and, it would probably come with the rest of the pistol, which you can just throw away....Try the northeast corner of Walk & Don't Walk....

Having just been through the same situation that you are currently in, all I can say is, keep an eye on the Classifieds here (and other popular firearm forums), and have patience. I finally found a used G19 slide assembly for my G23 this past week right here on Glock Talk, after about 3 or 4 weeks of combing through various internet classified sections and firearm auctions sites.

Someone earlier linked to Glockmeister, but their prices for complete slide assemblies are pretty high and every single model is listed as "Out of Stock" (and has been listed that way every time I've checked their website). They were the only retailer that I found that were even selling OEM Glock slides online.

So Aftermarket (such as LWB) might be your only option for buying something NIB. For Used, again keep an eye on the classified sections (they seem to go pretty quick when they are listed) or auction sights, or you might luck out at a local gun show. Good luck.

Yeah I was considering a .45 upper for my G20 but when I added it all up including a couple of mags I found that for about a $100 more I could go buy a G21.

I think it all depends on how much of a hurry you're in, how much you can afford, and how concerned you are about getting a newer/pretty looking slide. I wasn't in a hurry, couldn't afford more than a few hundred dollars, and I couldn't care less how old or ugly the slide was. So I bought with a used slide.

You're right though. If someone is willing to shell out the money for a new Glock upper (plus mags, and trigger housing), why not just buy the whole thing and have 2 complete pistols instead of 1 1/2.
