Hey fellas, I'm considering buying some OC for the girlfriend and wanted to get your opinions on Sabre Red spray. I am trained on and issued Freeze+P and know too well that stuff works wonders. However, I have no experience with Sabre so I was hoping some of you could give me some feedback on it's effectiveness.

Thanks a lot guys. I greatly appreciate any helpful responses in advance.

I got sprayed with sabre red for my certification, and I can vouch for it's effectiveness. I couldn't get my eyes open for 20 minutes and for a whole hour it felt like I stuck my face in a deep fat fryer.

Sabre red is some of the hottest on the market, right there with Freeze +P. I used to carry it for personal use, but found the propellant in the MKIIIs to be substandard. The MKIVs were fine, but too big for most folks' taste. I now carry Fox 5.3 personally. I have heard the Sabre Red is a litle slower to take effect than Fox, but also that the effects last longer. I did a lot of research before I settled on Fox.

At work, we use the same old horse pee as most folks around these parts: Def Tec 10%. Not the best, but it usually works fine. Usually.

Ok, cool. Sounds good.

If anything, I'll be getting her a small keychain one or something similar to that.

Freeze felt like my face was stuck in a deep fryer as well. I feel your pain on that one. By far the worst pain I've ever endured in my lifetime thus far.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Have a safe night out there. I'm about to head in myself.

:wavey:

I have been sprayed with and currently carry Sabre Red. I agree with others that it is bottled evil. I have been sprayed with Fox as well and would not call it pleasant but Sabre seemed to hurt a lot longer. The only thing worse could be Vexor by ZARC. It is supposedly 15 million SHU. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big name sprays though.

One thing with the Sabre Red: the can I had when I did security (before I went to DOC) was oil-based, and NOT safe for use with tasers. I don't know if all of the Sabre Red is, or if they make a water-based formula, but something to think about.

Sabre Red feels like death to your face. I was sprayed for instructor certification almost 2 years ago and I can still taste/smell the stuff when I think about it. IT WORKS. ;) This might sound obvious, but make sure the g/f knows the proper way to use it so she doesn't get a dose of it herself if ever trying to ward off an attacker.

Bad Stuff... *IF* I wasn't given Freeze +P I'd buy that concentrated evil in a can... *AHEM* I've been sprayed by both... both suck at a solid 8-9 out of 10 on the suck 'o meter...

I'm issued Sabre Red H2O, it is ECD compatible. I've been sprayed with it twice, and can attest, it is hell in a can. Nasty stuff.

While on the topic... for those of you that carry Sabre Red, do you order directly from them or through any standard police supply vendor? I'm due for a new supply and just wondering where to call for the best price.

Only place I know of is lapolicegear.com. Good folks.

Botach may carry it, but they're still a crap shoot from what I have heard.

I have carried Sabre Red for years for personal protection. One thing is that the oil base means that Mr. Crook can't just wash it off his face with water. Remember that oil and water don't mix. I have heard that you need to use Johnson's Baby Shampoo to help get it off. Also, the stuff I buy is mixed OC and CS, with a UV dye. If some bozo tries the old, "Nah, it wasn't me" routine, a quick pass with a UV light and see if his face glows like a baboon's hindquarters can kill that lie in a hurry.

SABER RED is LAVA IN A CAN you can grill a cheese sandwich with this stuff.. it brings grown men into compliance in one swift spray...It is the 10MM of Pepper spray...I have a MARK 4 RIOT CAN OF IT on my GEAR BAG... 60 ft fire extinguisher of this stuff... great for non compliant groups...there will not be a stuffy nose for 2 blocks when this stuff is deployed....

We carried Sabre Red in the Mk-9 Party Cans that we all had in our squads. We used it cause it was HOT and it was easier to identify all the people that were going to get arrested after the bar fight was stopped. Everybody that had a red face or clothes got the cuffs. :)
