I don't know if this helps, but all the actual posted Longshot data I have read suggests a diminishing return with anything over 9.2-9.3gr. The velocities don't vary much when loaded above 9.2gr. I loaded all the way up to 9.5gr with no signs of pressure as well, but since I don't have a chrono, I keep all my 180gr loads at 9.2gr. I'd be very interested in the results if you decide to develop that load though.

IMO it won't be 'nice', unless nice includes BRIGHT and GLOWING. Longshot has a lot of muzzleflash and I wouldn't use it for a PD load.
800X, either.
I now use SR4756. Accurate 7 and 9 would also be good choices.

What kind of velocities are you getting with these powders? I did quite a bit of research before choosing Longshot and I found it to achive the best velocities with lowest pressures.
I wish I had my reloading notes handy. Longshot is my main powder for 10mm target loads (180gr FMJ) and wake-up-the-range loads (various 135gr).
At 180gr, I carefully worked my way over 9.5gr until I started to see pressure signs (flattened primers). I don't recall how high I went, though. I was using a KKM barrel. If I'd been crazy enough to use the stock barrel, I would have seen the bulge and stopped before I made it to the flattened primers.

I bought 8 pounds of LS for my .40 for the same reason, but then I switched to Universal for my .40-cal. PD loads.
This is exactly what I found with Longshot. With 180gr bullets 9.2gr was max as far as velocity goes. Anything over 9.2 and my velocities dropped. I like it though, 9.2gr of Longshot with 180gr JHP is running in the high 1200 in my pistols.
I have heard that velocity with longshot does not increase over 9.4 as well. I got +15 fps. average from 9.4 to 9.5 so I am going to load a few batches of five:

9.7
9.8
9.9
10.0
I'll observe for overpressure signs and bring the chronograph with me and post results.
did you go over 9.5? If so did you gain any velocity? You might just have saved me some time and $$ if you have already done this.
I'm heading out to the range today. I'll let you know what I get for velocities.

Looking forward to your results gwillis. I am about to work up a longshot load w/ 180grainers and am interested in 9.0-10.0g data. Shooting out of a BarSto, and wanting 180@1300fps.

Nice pictures and your results were as expected for LongShot. The reason you were getting such a large flash in your 10mm LongShot load is the 155 grain bullet is too light to burn all the powder in the barrel with this slow powder in this large of case. I use 9.4 grains of LongShot with 180 grain XTP's to get 1325 fps and I get no flash visible from the firing position. Were you using magnum primers? They are recommended for LongShot.
In my G20 with the factory barrel, I started getting smilies at 9.5 at 1350fps at the rate of about 1 out of 5. It will go a lot faster and handle a bit more powder. I don't know who said it won't go faster as it goes right on up. I never tried any more than 9.6 grains as it was bulging 2 out of 5 in the stock barrel. I switched to a Lone Wolf barrel and no more bulges but this barrel isn't as fast as the Glock barrel. I recently started using a Dillon so I backed up the load to 9.4 for safety and it clocks 1325 in the Lone Wolf barrel.
My magic 10mm Load was given to me by Mike McNett from Double Tap a couple years ago.

9.4 grains of LongShot. He actually used 9.5 to get his advertised 1350fps. I backed it down just to add a small margin of safety.

This is my go to load for 10mm. It yields 1325 fps and 702fpe but don't recommend it in the stock barrel. I like it for how clean and powerful it burns with minimal pressure and almost no visible muzzle flash.
I just looked and noticed Mike is no longer selling this load so he may have concluded the same thing I did is is was a bit hot for the factory barrel. It is perfectly safe in the Lone Wolf barrel. Accuracy is excellent. On a good eye day I can hit clay pigeons pretty regularly at 100 yards.
I love LongShot and use it exclusively for all my auto pistol needs 9mm, 357Sig, 40S&W and 10mm.
My 155XTP LongShot load is a huge success with almost no flash and extremely clean burning while providing over 500FPE out of a G23. I sell the heck out of this load.
My velocities went up:

While I am happy with the velocities I have got so far, I think I may be able to increase velocity while decreasing the powder charge weight. I picked up some CCI 350 magnum primers yesterday. After reading much about these primers I think I'm gonna back it up to 9.2 grains of Longshot with these and see what knid of velocities I get and work on up from there. Hopefully the magnum primer will help to ignite more of the slower burning powder on it's trip out of the launch tube. I am going to the range Monday and I will post results.

You posted that you get 1248fps with WLP's @ 9.5gr, and that there was a 15fps drop with 9.4gr (1233fps), all with no pressure signs. If CCI350's @ 9.4gr are at 1250fps, that's not a very big difference. Unless the mag primers cut your ES in half or something, I don't see the point in switching. Unless it's just for the sake of experimenting ofcourse. If your groups are good, with WLP's @ 9.5gr (Hodgdon's listed max), I wouldn't change a thing.
I'm new to this, so pardon my ignorance if I'm missing something here...
I am more experimenting than anything. I am very happy with the results so far. I just think that maybe with the magnum primers I can get even more velocity without going into the 9.8 grain territory again as more powder will be burnt before it leaves the short barrel. Longshot is a relatively slow burning powder. I would really like 1300 fps or so with 9.6 grains. I have just finished loading five each from 9.2 to 9.8....we'll see.
Well I made it to the range yesterday and found out the magnum primers (CCI 350) gave me 50-100 more FPS with a given powder charge vs. Winchester WLP primers. I do not have pressure testing capabilities so I do not know for sure what the difference is in pressure but I found no overpressure signs going all the way up to 10 grains of Longshot which gave me 1295 fps out of my G29. :supergrin:
