Quality holsters will normally have different models for different sized guns. The Blackhawk CQC holsters are very good mid-grade holsters, but stick out too far to be effective for concealment. That said, the holster for the 19 will accommodate the 17 with no downside. I carry my issued 22 in a CQC holster for a 27 frequently when working in 5.11's.

Your brother may know what he wants but I think the Glock Sport Combat Holster is much nicer. It holds the gun much much tighter against the body and is very economical. It is the cheapest AND best holster I have. The blackhawk I tried was pretty decent quality but it just stuck out to far from my body.

Hasn't there been some problems with those blackhawk holsters? The release for the retention uses the trigger finger in a location that makes it more likely the finger ends up in the trigger guard as the weapon is drawn?

Thought I read something about that?

Pushing the trigger finger in the direction of the trigger guard to release the retension, if you don't release it quick enough as you draw, finger could slip off the frame and enter the trigger guard?

If you're slow and deliberate, no worries. Trying to draw fast I could see potential for problems...

I have a Level 2 SERPA holster... it's my duty holster.

I don't know why your finger could ever enter the trigger guard.
You are pushing the button on the holster with your trigger finger... that's right.
BUT you don't push the button with the finger tip. It's more like the middle of your trigger finger. So your finger stays fully extended while you push the button.
You can actually deactivate the retention system and make the whole draw with your trigger finger always fully extended.

There are lot of "reports" about bad retention systems out there.
I guess most of them where written by some other companies. Like there are some reports of accidental discharges while holstering with Safariland holsters and Glock pistols...
The same with that stupid DEA guy and his Glock... I think that nearly every of these reports is fake.

I use a SERPA holster every day as my duty holster and never had any problems with it nor had my collegues.

Brother wants a Serpa for Christmas. He has a G17, and wants to buy a G19 eventually. He wants this specific holster, but unlike alot of others, it has different part #'s for the two guns.

Does anyone know if the 17 will fit the 19 holster, vice versa, or neither?

Personal experiences only, please.

TIA!
I do ! I use my G17 in a G19 holster with no problems whatso ever. It will serve well.

No. If you index your finger properly, it will rest on the takedown lever, depending upon the length of your index finger. This is where the release lever on a serpa is. If you release your weapon, your finger is already indexed. If you stick your finger in the trigger guard, it wasn't because of the holster.
