As some of you know, I recently purchased a ZPAP-M70. It came with an AK slant muzzle device with two witness notches that supposedly allows one to lock the muzzle device into one of those notches with the detent pin.

Unfortunately for me, there is nothing that retains the pin and spring in the front sight base, nor are there any stops milled into the muzzle device to prevent the pin from continuing forward and falling out and becoming lost as mine did.

So, I ordered a replacement (.625 inch) pin and spring from CNC Warriors. Still, there is nothing to keep it from falling out as the front most cross pin at the bottom of the sight base doesn’t go through the detent pin channel.

I ordered an MDC BD2-AK muzzle device that at least has stops milled into the witness notches to keep the detent pin from falling out.

I don’t know if this is normal, but I was wondering if those of you that own one of these rifles have experienced the same thing.

If normal, it seems kind of lame.

I purchased a new muzzle brake from Rob Ski and had no problems removing the stock slant device and installing the new one. Worked like a charm.
Pics would help us see the issue you're having.

Not all muzzle devices made for AK have detent stops. I wouldn't "sweat it" nor obsess on it.

Use Rockset thread seal on the threads and time it close enough. Let cure 24 hours. Done.

Sum Ting wong there is a small cross pin that retains it or an allen key, it should not shoot out when the muzzle brake is removed . It may have possibly been out of spec so the pin would not retain it or the pin is gone.

Here's a pic of the pin in the detent of the muzzle device and one with the muzzle device removed. You can push on the pin and it retracts completely into the front sight housing and then springs back out when released. This is on a ZPAP M-70.

So i purchased a yhm muzzle brake and it does not come with detent slot on the brake. Do i have to remove my dentent pin on my m70 or can i just tighten over it?
Tighten Over it for the simple solution - but it may move under use.

OR the best solution: mark where it should be and create a indent for it with a Dremel cutting wheel. Or hire someone to do it.

I don't understand why these companies make these muzzle devices for AK style weapons but leave that off in the manufacturing. Stupid, and makes me question if that device was ever tested or intentioned for AK, or just a shared product for some other device, or just to look cool. Makes me question muzzle devices all together.

There's a reason there are limited muzzle device designs coming from Russia military's use-- the few (simple ones) they use work fine. All we are paying for is brand name, appearance and the "marketing promise".
