I recently bought my first Glock (Gen3 23) and am looking to pick up a holster. Main use is concealed carry, not deep undercover, but I'd like a normal human sized T shirt or a light coat to cover it. I'm not into the tactical vests and low hanging shirts.

A buddy has a Yaqui paddle style for his snubbie and I like the setup. Rides nice and high, fairly tight to the side and the paddle design allows him to quickly remove it for whatever reason.

I don't see Yaquis mantioned on here in my brief searches.

Advice?

IMHO of course, the Yaqui Paddle is going to stick out quite a bit with your G23. The Yaqui Belt Slide would work better. I own a Yaqui belt slide for my M1911's and it works ok. I prefer the Avenger for heavier guns. Galco also makes the JAK which will really hold it close to your body. I really like their Concealable.

On a belt slide I'm not too crazy about that much gun being exposed, I like having the barrel covered but that's just me. For T-Shirt wear you'd be better off with an IWB holster and there's a plethora of those around for Glocks. If you're like me and prefer OWB, just in the Galco catalog alone there is a huge amount of choices. And we're just talking Galco. There's a huge amount of makers which make good concealable holsters.

Good luck on your choice.

I second the galco idea...try the FLETCH or the concealable belt holster (I think thats the correct name), both keep the gun high and close to the body with a good draw. Believe m a couple of inches of holster hanging down from under a shirt is lot less noticable than a couple inches of barrel exposed. I personally don't like the yaqi having had a couple, belt and paddle, neither kept the gun concealed all that well...stuck out too much from the body.

I'm on the other side. I have one for my 19 and love it. It rides high enough that a normal t-shirt covers it just fine. Having the barrel exposed doesn't bother me, just realize you have basically no retention. Vigarous activity will require a different holster.

Yaqui style holsters have the belt retention directly behind the holster body. This makes for a deeper profile and causes the holster to protrude off the belt more than holsters with the belt retention fore and aft of the holster. The same is true for paddle style holsters. They are fine for range use and for woods and field carry, but they are not a good choice for a concealed carry holster.

Take a look at the Beltster. I bought one on sorta a whim. I like the original Yaqui slide to carry 1911's. Neat thing about the beltster is that if you remove the handgun, you don't have a "holster" still hanging on your belt. Yes, paddle type are quick on and off, but I've never really trusted paddle type holster retention.

Never been a fan of that style of holster. I don't like the muzzle sticking out at all, yet alone as far as those holsters do.

Anyone know where the name comes from? I assume some Indian thing.

Nothing louder than the "clang" of an uncovered muzzle hitting a steel chair!
I want my slide and front sights protected. I've seen guns with exposed slides actually pushed up from the holster while seated.

The problem I have with any open bottom holster that does not a thumb snap is when you sit down the muzzle of the gun can push up and push the gun out of the holster.

The Yacqui would be a great if you needed several cheap range holsters for different guns, but I would look elsewhere for CCW.

Collim has it. Yaqui style holsters leave a permit holder all too prone for a chair arm, console, or other object to eject their gun from the holster before they even know it's happening. I have and use one on occasion for my 1911. It's no substitute for a holster with proper retention.

Thanks for the input guys.

I run a Simply Rugged for my SP101. Anyone have input on the Simply Rugged Cuda?

-If you really want a G23 to be concealed under a T shirt (not 'casual concealed') you should try a good IWB holster.

-Because, like Tractor Supply 'gun belts', they really aren't that good.

-IWB; some good ones are Blade-Tech, Ted Blocker, Fist, Tucker Gunleather Answer.
