My safe will go through periods where the handle will not lock the safe, either door open or closed. I finally took off the inside cover to take a look at the locking mechanism. Nothing seems out of place, but sometimes the bolts will not stay engaged in the lock position. Opening is never a problem. The only troubleshooting stuff I find on the internet is about the electronic keypad. This is mechanical, not electrical. Any ideas out there in Glockland? Thanks!

How old is the safe?

Most safes require periodic maintenance, including lubrication of parts of the locking mechanism. If yours is too dry/unlubed, something may be "sticking" when it should be moving.

Contact a local locksmith that sells/services safes, describe the problem, see what they say.

After further investigation I discovered the problem is electronic in nature after all. Winchester is sending new parts.
I have a Liberty safe that was doing that also. I hired a locksmith and put in a S&G mechanical dial lock and tossed the electronic keypad, problem solved.
