San Francisco Police Department Seeks Help To Solve Crime But Blurs Face Of Suspect

FRIDAY, JUN 04, 2021 - 10:20 AM
Authored by Jonathan Turley,

This could make for an interesting line up.

The San Francisco police posted a videotape of a man lighting the hair of a woman on fire on a bus. They were seeking the help of witnesses but bizarrely blurred out the face of the suspect.
When confronted on the curious effort, the police insisted that it was just trying to get people to recognize the victim. Huh?

The young man is shown in the videotape casually moving over to sit behind the woman and then puts a lighter to the back of her head. She was helped by other passengers as the suspect and two friends ran off of the bus. She obviously could have been severely burned or even killed in such an attack if the fire spread.

This is what the police posted:

Not to belittle the seriousness of this stupidity, but...........
Where is Inspector Callahan when you need him??
If he was working in today's climate my guess he would be awaiting trial after a felony indictment!

I think we need to extend the border wall to encompass Kommifornia too, so the stupid will stop infecting the rest of the country.

I bet he was Amish and had a MAGA hat.

I don't know the answer.

But it could be similar to a case here CO where they blurred the face of the perp since they were sure he was a minor and there are restrictions about posting images of minors.

I posted something similar here not too long ago. I was watching our local news when they had a story on mail theft. They had video of the guy breaking into and stealing from a mail bank, but like in the OP's story, they blurred the guy's face out. Hmmmm, a news story about a thief where you'd think the story was to help identify the thief, and they hobble that effort by blurring his face out...

EDIT I did a quick search and found the video. If you watch you, you'd think they reporters were actually caring about this idiot being identified.

Well, the San Francisco Bay Area is all kinds of special. The main rail system there is Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). This stupidity is from 2017. I can't imagine it's any better now...

Amish youths on Rumshpringa in Oakland is a serious problem.

From what I understand they victim has not been contacted. Seeing the video before the photo ID could taint the case. They should have been more clear about it.
