I see all these crazy cut to pieces slides on Glocks. Yes i will admit that some of them do look nice. I actually like some of the simple forward serrations and stuff like that. But is there value in removing significant weight? What does it change in the way the gun fires? Does a lighter slide and heavier recoil spring reduce muzzle flip for competition?
Why are people lightening slides?

I believe it's most often an avenue to a means of revenue utilized by creative individuals with access to machining operations, to gain the interest of firearms enthusiasts by offering a previously unavailable means of customization.
In other words, generally (excluding competition) for no particular reason other than its physical appearance; showmanship.
