I have always wanted one, possibly because its a bit on the rare side or maybe just because its the longest 9 Glock makes.
Never had one in my hands but my thoughts were it would be fun, sort of like my 7"bbl .22 pistol?
I would use it just for fun target shooting.
17L or maybe a 34 would be more reasonable?

They both are a joy to shoot, however, there is something special about the 17L. You will not see many in person.

i have a G17L and still prefer the G17
my wife had a G34 and I preferred the G17

the G17L is fun to shoot at like 50-100 yards where that stupid long sight radius actually does help. for shooting inside 25 yards i don't find that long sight radius all that helpful. if you're bent on getting a G17L you can always just buy a G17 gen3 and then get a long-ass slide from Lone Wolf to have basically both G17 and G17L.

overall the G17 is undervalued...it's the original glock so it doesn't get all that much love anymore. I prefer the G17 balance over the G17L or G34. also I find the G17 easier to draw from most holsters.

maybe i'm just a geezer but a plan jane G17 gen3 is a thing of beauty.

The two Glocks I have are a 26 and a 17L. In both cases I shot one at the range, then immediately started the search to buy one. No regrets.

I find that at about 47 yards my reloads and EDC ammo shoot POA and POI. The 17L gives you another 10-15 yards, all things being the same.

This time of Life finds me competing less, wanting uniformity and less distractions with less perceived time to do so. The 26/17 times (3) each does all I need to do today for fun and carry and keeps me busy in trying to hone and retain skill sets.

Although I've had (2) 17L's, I no longer miss the platform.

A few months back I picked up a G-17L, it makes the third one I have had. The other two went by the wayside, for one reason or another. This one, like my Wife, is a Keeper. I plan on hanging on to both of them. Lol
I like shooting it, and run through about a hundred rounds a week.
I'll shoot other pistols at the range, but I shoot the G-17L the most.

I'd pick one up if I already had every other Glock I wanted... It's cool and would be fun to shoot, but personally, it's not a Glock that I have to own.

I have a G34 and LOVE it so?? I think the next Glock on my list is a G26.

I was going with the thought of bigger is better, isn't this common. I certainly wont consider this a carry pistol, as I mentioned more for fun!
Actually the 26 is more accurate, the 17L easier to shoot. You do generate 80- 150 FPS more in the 6" barrel.

If you are looking for immediate gratification for perceived accuracy from yourself the 17L will be your choice. If you are trying to become a better shooter, try something smaller.

Rocky, averaged 20K rounds a year thru Glocks for the last 24 years, since switching from 1911s, I only get bored because they always goes bang... Maybe I'll get a CZ or XD so there can be a little range drama now and then.

My problem was too much work. Too much team management, and too much responsibility RSOing at a match.

I've taken a year off competition, completely retired and I do not have to deal with shooters that have an attitude.

Re-evaluating many things and taking my time. I miss getting out in the woods and just walking, not necessarily hunting, just observing. Maybe it's time to forget the road trips and smell some roses.

I got my Gen 3 17L quite a while ago, when Glocks were well under $500 in my area.

I meant to use it for Competition in GSSF but realized that I could just use my G17 and use Competition Class as a warm up. I knew I wasn't going to come close to winning Competition.

I have thought of selling the G17L but I take it out every month and it's really fun to shoot. Kind of like when you go to the range and plink .22. Just a lot of fun.
