I think with heavy loads it would work ok, the weight will slow the
slide down and cause jams.

In my g27 I use a 5.3'' 40 barrel and shoot 180gr at 1225fps with Hodgdon
load data, still need a comp to slow the slide speed down to keep
from jamming, also shoot other safe but fast loads in 357sig and 9mm
that develop some pretty fast slide speed, mostly UW.
