What would you do Dan Wesson 15-2 OR Ruger Blackhawk?

Ok guys im in a "semi dilemma" here nothing earth shattering..more like irritating lol. First the background..

Dan Wesson Model 15-2:

Back in the first part to middle of Sept I found a Dan Wesson model 15-2 at a local gun shop..its in real nice condition it was the gun ONLY no barrel tool, not even the box..just the gun..they wanted $295 I got them to $270...only part was the guy said he could not at that time sell it to me because they are in the process of transferring the FFL over to a new owner..he said it would be done by October 1st...On October 1st I called to see if i could pick it up he said it was still not done yet and 2 weeks more id have to wait...today I call...(oct 5th) and get told still waiting and at least 2 weeks. getting kinda sick of really NOT knowing when I can get this gun..honestly I dont even think the shop owner knows when the ATF will be done with his paperwork..

Ruger Blackhawk:

Today while on vacation I figured if go around and make rounds of the local shops that can actually sell guns ....I got to one and in their display case they have 2 Ruger Blackhawks wuth the 4 5/8" barrel in VG condition for $300. They came with the gun and case.

Both guns were in VG condition..its a Trail/walking in the woods/Fishing/range type gun not a SD piece per say. I have no idea when I can actually get the Dan Wesson in hand..I know that at $270 its a decent deal. I could have either of the Black Hawks in hand this afternoon(or any time that they still have them). Are either of these guns a "better" deal? I know for the Wesson id eventually have to add the barrel wrench so another $30 which is the difference in the 2 guns anyways...so they are in that respect the "same" price.... but what would you do...keep the Wesson on "layaway"(ive NOT PUT A CENT DOWN ON THIS GUN YET he just has it set back with my name on it..and im not "screwing" the owner either since even if it was in his case he cant sell it anyways so no loss for either of us if I say you know what I dont want it anymore) and pick it up when(IF) he ever gets the license changed over(up to the ATF I guess how quick that happens) OR Should I go get the Ruger Blackhawk for $300 ?? what would you guys do////what should I do?? help me out here..I dont know if the BlackHawk is a good deal or not at that price in VG condition...

So simply what would you do in this situation wait for the Dan Wesson(how ever long that could take) OR just go get the Blackhawk.

Oh and semi off topic..does anyone know how long it would/could NORMALLY take to transfer or get this FFL license for the new owner..that would help a lot into knowing if im getting the run around or not or i its actually close to being the right time.

The only Ruger Blackhawk .357 that I would want are the old models or the new Flat Top models on the .357 size frame. I don't like the big frame guns.

Hang in there on the DW. They don't make them anymore. I've heard most were shooters and you'll be getting it for a song.

Back off on the Rugers. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but there will always be Ruger BHs available.

Keep your eye open for a BH Convertible in 357/9mm. They're a little scarce but not too pricey, even new. I bought a new 4-5/8" 357 BH several years ago with the extra 9mm cylinder. That gun easily outshoots my autos, isn't fussy about ammo and doesn't lose the cases. It's fun seeing how accurate 9mm is when the barrel stays put.

I think I'd hang in there waiting for the DW too. Not that there's anything wrong with the Ruger, but you can't swing a cat in a gun store and not hit a Blackhawk. The supply of Dan Wesson's is limited.

I've never had trouble finding Dan Wesson 15's in .357 mag. They aren't as common as the Blackhawk, but they aren't rare either.

I think it really comes down to do you want a double action or a single action gun?

FWIW The last DW 15 I had I traded for a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 mag.

Honestly around here this is the Only one ive seen in a gunstore under $700(it had the box and barrels) but then again ive never seen a Blackhawk for less than $350 either...thats why I just had to ask. And I guess it really doesnt matter on the DA/SA thing...its a woods/range gun so either would work. id normally load 2 cylinders with shot(for snakes and the rest with .357 mag...for other stuff)

But I am still on the fence on what to do...although I dont reload this .357 may drive me to do so which ever I get..

This seems to be a double edged sword.

DW / Ruger.

The DW (to me) is a great revolver, but, parts may not be 'that' available. (Not sure of that, btw!!)

Ruger has parts and most likely will have parts for years.

Is "BOTH" and option?!?!?!?!?

no, not even close I have a $300 max limit one is $270 the other right at $300..and thats why im having the problem lol both are good deals. I just want a nice shooter something for a "woods" gun and range use I like both actions, both are decent deals..one I can get the other I can get...sometime but no idea when ebcause of the ATF/FFL deal with that shop....ive heard 2 storied and dont know which is right..I heard (originaly) that they guy simply sold his business to another guy and they were waiting for the FFL license and all that stuf to transfer over...today both of the other gun shops said he got his FFL yanked by the ATF and is trying to get it switched over in a family members name(son i think) to keep the business going...I dont know which is true ..but what I do know is true is he cant sell anything lol.

Then I'd have to go with the Dan Wesson.

Granted, it's not a 15-2, but, I extremely happy with my DW 44VH-8 with VH-4 barrel assembly.
Accurate.

Im trying to do that but my fear is that I pass on the Rugers then some how the deal for the Wessons falls through the guy cant get his license or store closes then im out both lol(meaning in the meantime the Rugers sell) thats my luck...if I KNEW this guy was gonna be back for 100% sure id not be so worried..but I cant figure out what the hecks holding up this license/FFL krap..

Not sure what's holding up BATFE on the FFL.

If you are that worried that the dealer won't get his FFL, go for the Ruger and don't look back.

I like DW's, and I really want another 15-2, but that story it hincky: grab the Ruger and pick up a DW later. As mentioned above, they aren't made any more but they aren't terribly rare. I used to have a .45LC Blackhawk, they're good guns!
I know..I just found out about the ATF possibly yanking his license for reasons unknown..id like to get to the bottom of it..is it a simple sale or did they yank it and is something else that I dont know about going on..and if so will the "new owner" get his license and when lol...I mean like ive said..just my luck..find a good deal and have to wait or cant get the gun lol..imagine that lol.

Funny thing about DW revolvers.

A plain revolver with no case, spare barrels or tools is worth less then a comparable S+W revolver, $250-$300 is the range I see them in. But the Pistol Packs with a couple barrels, case, and tools go for almost silly money. I've seen people asking $1,500 for a gun with 4 barrels and case.

Anyhow I see why you are having problems deciding. They are both excellent guns.

Yeah this sucks lol and I know what you mean...biggest part is the not knowing about the one place... for the Wesson it could be 2 days, it could be 2 weeks, it could be 2 months or it could be never(his deal falls through business closes up) who knows lol..When he had at first told me come get it October 1st..that was a "set date" and im ok with that ..when I called to tell him to have it ready October 1st(I called Sept 30th as I was gonna pick it up Oct 1st in the AM on my way back from work) guy says paper works not back yet 2 more weeks....then I call him a week later and I get..still not ready with paperwork 2 more weeks....I was like didnt you just say that 2 weeks 1 week ago lol...

At this point, if I wanted a DW, I'd be on the phone to other local dealers looking for one. My favorite shop has them fairly often. The supply might be limited as I said, but they're not rare. If I couldn't find one, I'd get the Ruger, and keep looking for a DW.

Thats just what I did..im on vacation this week. no one in a 100 mile radius of the stores I know of has one..also no one has a .357 either for less than $325 and those were both Taurus model 66's. I did see a Taurus 3" .44 magnum lol but thats the closest I found other than the Blackhawks. At this point I will just wait..heck I even called a gun shop 2 hour drive away (Grice guns in PA) to see if they had ANY .357's in the close to $300 range they said no..thats the biggest gun store in the area...I actually on Mon-Wed since it rained personally stopped in 5 of them and then on Wed/Thurs called the ones over a hour away just to check...nothing under $360 and that was a Taurus(and while im ok with Taurus id just as soon have the Blackhawk) . So im just gonna wait and see if I get screwed over or not(im guessing yes somehow) and that will basically let me know to go with my gut instinct(which originally was to just get the Ruger because I could actually go shoot it have it in hand) or if waiting is sometimes the better course. So im outa luck till at least the 20th....or so it seems. Ive also been hitting classifieds and gunbroker and that stuff...at this point id eat the $25-30 shipping if I could get a Wesson in about the same price range($270-300).

I have a BH in 357, it's my first handgun. While it works fine, I don't like it. I do better with my GP100 because the big heavy hammer and the skinny grip on the BH, combined with the very front heavy "balance" makes it hard to be accurate even with a two hand hold. The grip and lock time/inertia on a DA are just eaier to shoot well.

I don't know much about DW guns, other than they look like a nice idea. I spoke to one of the CZ reps at the NRA show and he said they would be prodicing the revolvers again for whatever that is worth.

Thats cool...it was rumored(on the internet of course) that they only bought DW so that they could get the rights to the 1911's and then they would drop the revolver line completely..I was hoping that to be false and just that a rumor...hopefully your report is more accurate..id love something thats still supported.
