Hi guys / gals, I am trying to find a good CCW position but am having a difficult time getting comfortable.

Can anyone recommend what might work for me?

  1. I am in and out of cars a lot and can't holster / unholster without scaring people in the parking lot. Ideally this would be something I could wear comfortably driving and standing / sitting.
  2. I am a slimmer guy and generally tuck in shirts.
  3. The most comfortable carry for me is high appendix in a belly band, but I can't get to the firearm quickly and it prints.
  4. Ideally, I would like something I could draw and fire within 1-1.5 seconds from concealment.
  5. Right now, I find that I'm fastest on a draw from a fanny pack or pocket... looking for a comfortable on-body position but I might be wanting something that doesn't exist.
  6. I would love to have a comfortable G26 position that satisfies above. I have a Kahr PM9 and soon to have a G43 that could be used.
  7. Whenever I IWB carry, it's comfortable when standing but not in a car. Or buried so far that I feel like I'm slower from a draw than a fanny pack. I usually carry standard appendix or 5 o'clock but the car seats get in the way.
Am I wanting something that doesn't exist? Is anything going to beat a pocket or fanny pack carry for what I'm looking for? Any help / advice would be very appreciated!

Might I suggest IWB at about 2 O'clock. Don't rule out a cross draw at the same, 10-11 O'clock.
Good luck with the dilemma.

Ive actually found my 19 at about 1230-1 o'clock to be bearable in the car, AS LONG as i adjust the belt and holster upwards as i get in the seat...hence you're not poking yourself in multiple areas...

then as you get out, re-adjust and move along... etc etc

hope this helps...

The most comfortable for me is an OWB holster like the Alien Gear, that I can slide foward to 2:00 when in the car, and back to 3 or 4:00 when walking around. I have to skip a belt loop with the belt to accomplish this slidy stuff.

But since you tuck your shirt, as you say you may be limited to pocket or fanny pack. One option may be to pocket carry, then place the gun in the center console or elsewhere for easy access when driving. You would have to be very conscientious about it, though, as it would be easy to forget when exiting the vehicle, and it is sub-optimal if you have passengers.

A Sneaky Pete holster would work well with a smaller gun, but it is obvious to any gun guy what you are doing.

In your situation I would go with a Glock 42 or 43, or Kahr PM9 in the pocket, and when you don't have passengers place the gun in the console or other easy access area. Small pocket guns are, for me, 100% comfortable in business casual attire, and pretty quick on the draw unless seated. And the upside is that you can stand there looking all innocent and helpless with your hand on the gun.

Carry your backup in an ankle holster. At times, drawing your backup in a car would be faster than drawing your primary.
A guy I used to work with did that. He pulled up to a burglary call, right where the burglar was and the guy came at him with a tire iron before he was out of the car. He fell back into his car, but was on top of his gun, so he drew his ankle gun and shot the guy through the elbow. He joked about it every time we saw the guy walking around town with his gimpy arm.

If I'm driving say a long distance a cargo pocket works for me. Its in the exact same position as if you pulled the gun and put it under your thigh only better because it will not fall out to the floor boards. It will be slower to draw than waist carry when out of the car, you can improve this by melting some of the hooks on the velcro, not all of them, to make it easier to rip the pocket open if you need to draw. Also, a lot of people find it annoying having the gun bouncing against their thighs; I think its something you get used to after awhile. I think its a good way to carry if you driving a lot and not walking much.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, if you are going wear tucked in shirts you are going to lose speed for any waist carry. Probably your best compromise would be an untucked but open shirt which is pretty fast and you can show your slender waistline.

I wear a Crossbreed Supertuck deluxe at 3 o'clock. I use a glock 42 and 43 mostly and seldom carry my 23 anymore but when I do it's in the same 3 o'clock position. Isn't wedged between you and the seat like the 4 o'clock position. The seatbelt goes right over it so drawing fast is an issue while in the vehicle. I just keep my doors locked at all times and situational awareness is IMO the most important aspect. Call me crazy but I'm always watching my side and rear view mirrors and especially surveying all surroundings when coming to a stop.
Also think about keeping another pistol more readily accessible in your vehicle, like wedged between the console and seat, under the steering wheel with a good mount etc. not sure what type of vehicle you have but there are a ton of options out there. You can never have too many pistols!!

I carry my G17 @ 11 o'clock (no holster).
It is invisible under my tucked-in shirt.
