I went to the indoor range yesterday - fired off a couple hundred rounds of 9MM TulAmmo, 100 rounds of Monarch in both 9MM & .45 ACP (G21) and 50 rounds of 9MM High Country reloads

It all functioned just fine in my CZ75, M&P40 with a Storm Lake conversion barrel & GEN3 G19.

I noticed a spark in the muzzle blast every once in a while - mostly with the TulAmmo - but it seems like the other ammo also did it sometimes too.

What causes this spark?

Is it unburned gun powder flashing off? Something from the cheap FMJ bullet and friction inside the barrel?

I am not concerned about it - just curious more than anything.

I also put a couple boxes of BlazerBrass, a box of S&B and a few mags of my carry ammo Black Hills 124GR +P, not a single spark was generated.

:dunno:

Should be unburnt powder firing up as it is leaving the barrel. Nothing else to make sparks.
Do you get residue on our hands/forearms? Burnt or unburnt powder will also cause this.
My fingers were a little grungy - but no more so than any range trip.

I have not noticed this when I shoot outside --normally in bright sunlight - the indoor range was a little dark on my end - which gave me a chance to test out my Streamlight.

I heard a lady in the next lane over tell her husband (I assume) look at that light - we need one of those!

I am not always certain it is unburnt powder with stuff like TulAmmo. I have to guess with some of the stuff it might be flakes of an old Yugo or bits of camel dung or maybe even flakes of dehydrated cavier jetsam. But I am sure it something in there burning a bit late.

I've seen sparks coming out of the ejection port due to the steel case but I 've never noticed it coming from the muzzle.

The sparks are unburned powder grains. They look like a miniature fireworks show. They will be more prolific in shorter barrel firearms.

You have finally run the gun enough to remove all of the copper anti seize. That is causing friction and oxidization with the steel cased ammo.

^the above is complete gun board bs but I figured I would make up something that sounded smart^

classic.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

nicely done.....

That's the rifling being blown downrange by that cheap ammo. Look at the barrel and see if you have any rifling left.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Above is total BS.

Powder is still burning as the bullet progresses down the barrel, some have already become hot blazing gas, some are still burning. The flash/flame is the gas, the sparks are late blooming powder grains.

I figured it was unburned powder -

The TulAmmo (Monarch steel case & High Country reloads) shoot just fine - at close range in rapid fire drills I can't tell any difference between these and my $.50+ a round JHP SD rounds.

When I see this on sale for under $10 a box I will buy it again.

When I am shooting 15+ yards - the group starts to spread out a little VS BlazerBrass but still stays within COM on my silhouette target -

A little dirty maybe - but not that bad - I clean after every range trip anyway.

Next time Academy has 230 GR .45 ACP Monarch steel case on the shelf for $14.99 I am going to load up my cart.
