What Caliber Would You Carry in a Ban State?

Would you change calibers if you were limited to 10 rounds? Or 8 rounds in NYC? What caliber would you carry if you had a mag limit like that?
Personally to me if I had to have less BB's in the mag I'd rather them be bigger ones. In a 10 round jurisdiction I'd probably carry a G30, a G21 cut to take G30 mags, or HK45C/USP45C. If limited to 8 or less, I'd probably carry a 7-shot wheelgun in .357. I still wouldn't be against a G26 or G19 cut to take G26 mags loaded with premium 9mm defensive ammo if that's what I had. I wouldn't trust the Glock factory ban-compliant 10rd G19 mags, though, with their history of inferior reliability.

In somewhere like NJ where there's both a mag limit and you can't carry expanding ammo, I'd probably carry a G30 or HK45C/USP45C loaded with flat nose FMJ... Or maybe a S&W 625 in .45 ACP loaded with full target wadcutters... or a 629 loaded with full wadcutter .44 Special.

I dont travel to ban states on my own dime, so that is my first defense. However, if we go back to the idiotic idea that the number of booolets will save lives, I'll probably go back to a 1911 pattern or an updated version there of in 9. I dont see caliber as that big an issue with modern ammo development.

This is all hypothetical, because I will never even visit such states let alone live there, but considering the scrutiny you would face for any kind of SD in those states, I would go old school; 38spl...it would be very difficult for an over zealous DA to crow about the "terrible destructive power" of the lowly 38, or the "high capacity" of my 6 shot, 686

My answer would be the same as it was when the topic was on the minds of a lot of people during the '94 federal ban and then the 2000 CA law.

.38SPL, .357MAG, 9, .40 & .45ACP. The only difference now is that I've added .380ACP, since the diminutive .380 pistols I own can fit in pockets that are too tight and short to accommodate my 5-shot snubs.

Higher or lower ammunition capacity doesn't influence my selection of handgun caliber. That's rabbit's foot thinking. ;)

My EDC gun is my WCV Gen 5 Glock 19. When I travel (covered under my LEOSA Retired Officer creds) I take 10 round mags for it or carry my grip reduction Gen 3 Glock 26 with 10 round mags. In the past I have had my plane/flight diverted to "commie" 10 round states. Also, I used to live in WA and my mom still lives there, if I go to visit now - it will have to be with a 10 round mags.

I wouldn't live in a 10 round capacity state - unless it was the last state available for me to live in. (Not likely!)

I must not understand the question. There are other calibers besides 9mm? No seriously, if I could only have one bullet, I'd still only carry 9mm. There's nothing any other caliber can do that 9mm doesn't do a whole lot better. :ROFLMAO: Just kidding!

Probably not. Caliber doesn't as much for me as platform and specifically shootability and size/weight.

I'm not in a ban state and I already carry 10+1 9mm or 7+1 .380 (with backup mags).

So, I don't think I'd change anything.

If I couldn't have JHPs, I might pick up a Shield .40 and maximize it with MagGuts spring kits.

Do any of the ban states limit the number of magazines carried? Or the number of guns carried?

I’d still carry a Glock 29 with a couple of spares. And I don’t live in a restricted state.

40 S&W. Either a Glock 27 Gen 3 or a S&W Shield. Both are lighter and more compact than any 45 and have pretty much the same ballistics out of a short barrel when you compare non-Plus+P 185 grain 45 to 180 grain 40. And in spite of what those who are Recoil-phobic say, recoil is no worse with 180 grain 40 than 9mm Plus+P.

I know everyone is supposed to hate the 40 these days but it's really the most logical choice for concealed carry in a limited capacity gun that is lightweight and concealable.
