I only know of Ruger, Taurus and Freedom Arms.

The Ruger Super Redhawk is the cheapest, but it's heavy and ugly.

Freedom Arms is a beautiful work of art, but is it worth the money?

The only way I'd fire anything made by Taurus, in that big of a caliber, is with a 100 foot string tied to the trigger.

Are there any other choices?

Right now I'm seriously leaning toward a Freedom Arms.

Thank You.

I had two .454s before I went with the S&W .500 Mags. The Ruger Super Redhawk was excellent. The Taurus was amazingly louder, why I don't know, had issues, Taurus wasn't interested in pleasing me and I'm not terribly picky.

So, if you are happy with a SA and the cost isn't a major issue, I'd rank them Freedom Arms, Ruger, BFR and a very distant 4th, Taurus. Don

I suppose I'm just the opposite. In a big boomer, I like the single actions. They just roll up in your hand instead of driving right back at you like every DA gun I've shot. They do take some getting used to if you didn't grow up shooting cowboy style guns, but with a little practice, you can shoot them fast and even reload them quickly. It's really not that hard. I carry a Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk in the mountains constantly. If I had the dough, it would be a Freedom Arms. They are seriously high quality revolvers.

Ruger Alaskan !!
Do you have one?
What kind of accuracy do you get?

This new 454 will be a range gun only (out to 100yds)
I don't need concealment and a longer sight radius is preferred.

It will supplement my collection of SW model 29s and Ruger Super Blackhawks, and my Ruger 45 LC Blackhawks.

I have a "thing" for big bore single action revolvers.

The Taurus will be louder because it's ported.
