So, I've heard about some reliability issues that were present with some of the Gen 3 Glock pistols chambered in 40 S&W while the light was mounted on. I'm going to test this issue myself soon with my G22. Here is the question:
- was it also a problem on some of the model 17s or was it unique issue connected with 40 S&W only?
Thanks!

From what I've heard and read it was mainly related to the .40. My 07 22 has never had an issue with my tlr2 attached to it when firing it. 500 rounds or so through it with the light.

Thanks! I like Gen 3 just fine, but I would like to be fairly sure that 17 was light trouble free before spending any money on another Glock pistol.

Our 3rd Gen G21, G17 and G19 have all had zero issues with rail-mounted lights, including SureFire X200's A & B (superseded by the X300 series) and an Insight XTI Procyon (superseded by the WX150 series)... Zero issues...

Pretty much all the negative rail-mounted light reports I've read about involved the G22 (and possibly a G23 or two), chambered in .40 S&W.

By the bye, our G21 and G19 have both performed very well with the LaserMax guide rod lasers in place, over thousands of rounds on each gun. We're very pleased with these!

Having celebrated a recent birthday, my G17 now sports a LaserMax Native Green guide rod laser, which I will be range-testing soon!

From what i remember the issue was only regarding the 40 cal chambered pistols. I know the glock 22 was involved but not sure if the others were as well. The problem was the light did not allow proper flexing of the frame when being fired. It was resolved by adding an extra coil of the magazine spring. The five magazines i have had not had any issues with a light attached.

I have a Viridian X5L on my G20. It has given me zero issues on shooting and/or feeding.

The only issue I did have is that the Gen 3 G20's rail is not that physically stable - it sags a little after 100 rounds or so when the weapon has heated up so the lasers POA droops a few inches at 25yds. I shimmed the space between the back of the X5L and the front of the trigger guard which fixed that issue so it holds zero much better now.

Thanks Guys. Just bought a brand new Gen 3 G17. May be my last pistol for a while.

The Glock models I've heard other armorers report as having feeding timing problems when lights were attached have been the Gen3 & older G22/23's.

I'd not be surprised to hear about it having happened with a G35, but you don't hear about them being used in the same numbers as the 22/23's.

The slide velocity & feeding timing differences of the Gen3 & older 9's & .45's might make them less susceptible.

Bottom line? Function check each individual gun/light/ammo combo being considered & used to confirm normal functioning with the light attached. (Just like with any particular ammo being used, right? ;) )

I've seen a pretty large sample of older 3 gen 17s and 35s run with lights without issue. Most of the reports of light issues centered on 3rd gen 22s.

For what it's worth, I'm told that the current Louisiana State Police RTF2 22s and 17s are running fine with lights. These are just a few years old and I retired prior to that switch.
