A Glock of any generation holds it's own against the VP9 or PPQ. The 5 doesn't really change anything.

Who knows why the 19x is so popular. Some people will just buy the new thing whether it makes sense or not. It only works as a suppressor host to me, but I don't see many filling that role.

I would go with the VP9 over the gen 5 Glock personally. The vp9 is one of the best shooting polymer framed striker fired pistols I've ever put my hands on. Also, if it matters to you, it's also completely ambi. Of course this is GT so most will probably disagree and tell you how unreliable and complicated it is and that they wouldn't take one if it was given to them.

all 3 of the pistols you mentioned are reliable, and shoot great.

the grips on the Walther and HK are much better than the glock.
you need to hold, or shoot each one, and make your decision.
dont go by what people just type from a keyboard. get out to your local GS and dry fire them, or rent them. all of these should be available for rental.
i like the grips on the Walther and HK over the glock, tutu the glock holds more rounds if that is your thing.

all 3 are tough and reliable, for a cc or a HD weapon.
no matter which you choose, you win!

I'm looking for a new striker fired pistol and wondered if the gen 5 glocks had enough improvements to choose one instead of the vp9 or ppq. Why is the 19x so popular?
The 19x is popular because of the way it balances in the hand and points naturally at the target. those who haven't actually fired one will never comprehend that simple fact.

I shot ( few years back) a PPQ M2 then a VP9, then a P320 full size. My initial impression. VP9 nothing outstanding, but nice to shoot with. PPQ M2's trigger was very impressive. Me i'll stick with my Glocks, they do the job I ask of them.

Just speaking from the VP9 as I can't get a Glock Gen 5 and not sure about the Walther PPQ; the only downside I've found to the VP9 is the cost of the magazines. Excellent trigger and accuracy.

A Glock is a Glock, you pretty much know what you’re going to get.

I’ve never heard anything but good things about the PPQ.

My VP9 has pretty much replaced my G17, HK P30, and HiPower. I absolutely love the grip, the sight picture, and the controls.

The interchangeable grip panels and backstraps are a God send, not to mention the paddle mag release. My thumbs can never reach any other mag release.

Best I’ve found was $25 a mag. That was a one time deal. Never have seen that again.

IMO the VP9, PPQ, and Gen 5 Glock are all terrific top tier striker fired pistols with great reputations and you can't go wrong with any of them if they fit you well. As mentioned it is best to try out whatever you are considering and go with what works best for you based on live fire experiences if possible.

I own the VP9, PPQ, and Gen 2 Glock 19. If I did not already own a Gen 2 Glock 19 I would not hesitate to get a Gen 5 Glock 19. I personally am not interested in the Glock 19X because the Glock 19 works out so well for me for CCW IWB and would not want the longer grip of the 19X. I also own an HK P30L and really like that the VP9 and P30 series use the same magazines.

Good luck.

I just wanted a new GLOCK to go with my old one. I ordered up a 19x, because it is cool looking, has night sights and 55 rounds worth of magazines. I've heard others say it, and I'll repeat it; I shoot GLOCK 9mm pistols better than anything else. Not sure why really. They just shoot better than they should somehow.

I think some design, r &d and engineering went into the "X". I don't think it's totally a gimmick thing for "fanboys."

I shot a G5 G19 the other day. I liked it! I'd get one of those, but I got a carbine that uses GLOCK magazines. This Coyote GLOCK has big magazines. I'm diggin' 9mm firepower these days- oh yeah!!
